2013 Ls460. Naviks Install
Anyone install a Naviks Carplay and not be able to view the full display? Mine only shows the left side of the display, meaning the side display is still on with Lexus info. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
This might help. Had the unit professionally installed and technician was on lengthy call with Tech Support at Naviks. Naviks says it may be installed incorrectly but they also stated that my model Ls460, may NOT use the entire display. Going back to the shop tomorrow to try again. In the video on youtube, with same Gen LS460, it uses the entire screen. Was wondering if anyone knows how to turn the “Side Display” off. Can not find anywhere in the manual.

I installed a beatsonic unit a few months ago in my 2014. As others have said, in the '13s and '14s at least (I forget if this limitation went away in '15 or '16), the "side display" is always going to show the OEM screens, and you can only use the "main display" portion of the screen for Carplay. However, it looks like your unit is trying to send a signal formatted for the full screen. I don't have the instructions in front of me right now (and it's a somewhat different interface box anyway), but if I remember correctly, some of the DIP switches on the box have to be set correctly in order for the unit to be configured correctly for the earlier or later model year's screens. I'd double check the switches with the manual to make sure it's set up correctly for a 2013. When configured correctly, Carplay should format itself to fill just the "main display" area and not have things hidden on the righthand side.

Call the OEM of it to find the way to change it.

The rumor floated around that the HEAD unit from a 2016-17 is the only part that is the new system. This should be drop-in replacement. This should update the infotainment system and allow you to use the full screen. This not known 100% but, everything I have read points to it.
The problem? The cheapest USED one is around $4,500 and I would not spend that on a test.

After this enlightenment about my '13 lack of capabilities, I'm glad I haven't pursued an upgrade to a CarPlay system. I'm happy with using bluetooth for streaming music. I also have a windshield suction mount for my phone if I desire any other phone based apps to be easily visible. It has a long arm that brings the phone to the edge of the dash. Easy to reach, touch and see. I imagine when have a car with CarPlay capabilities, I'd get attached to the convenience and always want it.

It almost feels OEM. My kit is wireless, so I can get in car, and the system automatically starts up. No question, it has it's quirks but, it does work and work good.
Looking at the factory system after using this, it looks like it's 20 years old....
My kit was like $240, I installed myself, best money I have ever spent and will not buy another car unless it comes with, or I can't add it on...
I would never go back to a suction cup on the front window....and all the wires on on the dash, no thanks

If you have any questions feel free to message me.....

Then around mid-June I had my car in the shop for what ended up being a two-week diag session, and to my surprise they offered me an 2022 LS 500 at the loaner counter*. Naturally being a current model it had Android Auto, and after living with it for two weeks I had to have it in my car, and ordered my kit within the week. Funnily enough, they didn't add wireless Android Auto until 2023, so my 2014 LS now has a leg up in at least one area. Very convenient to be able to keep my phone in my pocket for shorter trips. While it would be nice to use the full display, having such a big screen means that there's still plenty of space on the left 2/3rds, and I've not had any real complaints about that; it's actually sometimes nice to be able to use some of the side display functions while still having android auto displayed on the left.
*Quick review compared to the 460: Nice interior, not personally as big a fan of the exterior design vs the 4LS, and coming from a 460L the reduction in interior volume was a bit of a letdown; maybe that would've been fine if I didn't drive an L?. The powertrain was better than expected, though being a '22 they did have a few years to tune it since the original release. My only real problem was the awful decision to mount runflats: I could feel that the air suspension rode better than my coil springs over larger bumps, but those tires transmitted every little detail in the road into the cabin, so over everything but freshly-paved roads my 4th gen is nicer to be inside.
Thank you both for sharing your experience and pleasure from the upgrade. Even with the shared screen, it sounds very modern and updated. I'll go to RoadTop site and read more. Just looked at site and it's not compatible with my 2013. Others appear to be over $500. Under $275 is appealing to me.

I am surprised that in this forum and others, no one ever talks about UNAVI. I researched CarPlay units from all the major vendors (e.g. Beatsonic, GROM, Lasailt, etc.) and chose UNAVI because they are stateside and their return policy seemed less hectic than the rest. Although, a UNAVI authorized installer was ~92 miles away, I chose to install the unit myself. It took about 3-4 hours working painstakingly slow to prevent careless mistakes. A week post-install I was somewhat disappointed because the unit was cumbersome to use with the split screen and all. I installed the unit without reading the suggested tweaks....heck didn't read them until over a week later. After reading the suggested tweaks and reaching out to customer service twice, the unit is tweaked as perfect as it gets. Now, I couldn't be happier. It exceeds my expectations and I'd highly recommend it (although from what I've seen, they all look pretty much the same). My unit cost $575 after $100 discount, although I believe the discount is a load of BS.
Negatives - 1.) LS Install video is nonexistent. I used the install video from GROM. 2.) Install documentation is HORRIBLE.
Positives - 1.) Unit works as advertised (fully functional). 2.) OEM menu still available when needed. 3.) Airplay works 4.) HDMI works 5). Install/Tech Support answered my calls. 4.) Uses original mic. 5.) Phone pickup/hang up works. 6.) Wireless or Wired

Here is my review of both. NO QUESTION there is a learning curve to use some of these systems...

The Grom kit looks better in the control department but, also comes with a HUGE price tag, like starting at $500. I'd like to try this one but, $500 is just too much to even attempt.

Out of all of them, if the controls on the GROM is as nice as they appear in their video, this would be the one I would like the most but, starting at $500 the cost for entry is too much.
