I been trying to find the best way to fit an after market screen with apple car play. The 2 most common options is to replace the NAV with an android head unit, or buy a double din kit. But those options won’t work for me since I want to keep my NAV and the double din in my opinion ruins the design of the interior. I was thinking if it’s possible to replace the CD changer with a flip out single din, and be hidden by the wood door. Also I plan on using my stock ML amp since it still works. Has anyone done this?

I had a passing idea about this too! Haven't seen anyone do this so let me know if u follow through with it!
You can get the flip out to work if there's enough room, it might need to be mounted a little further forward. I had one in my old mercedes and had it mounted to stick out about an inch so it could flip open fully. It had a bezel around it so it didnt look too bad, but with the LS that door likely wont close if its sticking out. It may need to stay open, or you could remove it altogether which goes against the aesthtics youre trying to preserve in the first place.
An idea of how it would look, this seems to be some sort of custom setup that slides the head unit forward when opened to give it enough room to clear the center console when it flips up:
