Default Power steering fluid

I know it takes DIII ATF fluid. Came across this on eBay. $87WTF. I am also ordering a new bottle. I was thinking going with Motul DIII. Anyone else use motul for PS?

If you want it spend the money, if not go to your local Toyota dealer and ask for Dexron ATF.

You can safely use any dex/merc from your local parts store, a full synthetic can be used as well if you want. I used AutoZones house brand dex/merc full synth in the 02 and the 06

I run Valvoline maxlife in my Toyota systems. Works great, and when I say great, I mean that I never seem to have any problems or leaks, so it must work to a certain degree!

Any DEXRON II or III will meet factory specifications. Select whatever brand is on sale at the lowest $/mL, you don't need any fancy labels or additives.

Toyota/Lexus factory service manuals and factory maintenance specifications do not provide any recommended time or mileage interval for power steering fluid replacement. Dealerships say they only recommend changing if there are leaks/foaming/emulsification and/or known problems in the system that can cause fluid contamination.

For what it's worth, my power steering fluid is factory original, hasn't been changed in 20.5 years. It's been on my to-do list for the past few years to syringe some out from the reservoir and replace to the max line, and repeat every few months/years until the fluid is less black.

Thanks! I would also recommend changing out the reservoir. Ordered mine OE one from Japan for $110.
