Hi I’m new here! I have recently bought a 2001 ultra lux ls430. I knew it was gonna need some work and did a full vehicle inspection. I found out my rear passenger side air strut was leaking and needed to be replaced. I was pondering on just replacing the air strut and keeping it on stock bags and also getting a controller that overrides the stock air suspension to make it lower, but I didn’t want to worry about the other ones eventually going out on me and having to spend even more money! (Keep in my mind this air suspension is over 20 years old and still works fine other than the rear right leaking) I don’t want to get a after full air suspension kit right now because it is out of my budget, so I started to look into a static set up that maintains ride quality.
My goal for the car is to VIP it so I want to lower it but also maintain ride quality, does anyone have any tips on what coil overs/ struts and lowering springs I should use??
do you recommend any bc coilovers that prioritize ride quality?
They only have the one type for ours, the BR.
When i ordered mine i went with slightly stiffer springs than what they come with, I really didn't like how bouncy the stock setup was.
You can adjust the damping on the struts so you have more control over the compression and rebound, so you can set them for a softer ride that should get you closer to stock if that's what you want.
Ive had coilovers on other cars that made the ride super firm, with these it was closer to maybe oem bmw ride.

I was looking into the br series and I think they are the ones I'm going to get. Thanks for your advice!

Also, do you know the spring rate I should get for the front and rear if I want to get the "extreme low" option and drop the height 2-3 inches, maintaining as much ride quality as possible?

I have these exact BC BR coil overs in extreme low and I initially bought them with 12kg/mm front springs and 10kg/mm rear springs. I found it a bit too stiff for my daily drive (bumpy non-highway road) so I swapped to 10kg/mm front and 8kg/mm rear which has made it more comfortable but not bottoming out. mind you I have a finger gap between the tyre and fender so if you want to run lower or if you regularly have people in the backseat then stiffer springs may be more suitable

Yeah i also opted for 12 and 10! They were slightly stiffer than they could have been. Not harsh by any means but if looking for a gentler ride your move to 10/8 is probably the way to go
