Default Nav Screen Replacement Alternatives

Greetings! I'm new to Lexus and new to this forum, but very excited to be here. I was tired of a car payment, and just sold my new 4Runner and bought an '03 LS430 with 103k on it (paid $7,500). Put new tires on immediately and I will order new bushings and ball joints (trying not to do the whole lower control arm as they are fine, though might have to as there doesn't seem to be any way to change the front bushing without just buying new LCAs).

Anyways, I digress. This car is in very good condition, the PO changed out the TB at 76k and was all over maintenance at the dealer.

After owning the car for a few weeks now, the clock, nav screen and HVAC system (all the same in '03) works intermittently. The screen is always on, but just doesn't function, and when this happens the clock and all the digital display above it goes out. I've tried to find a thread related to this issue and haven't found much, I found someone with a later IS that had a NAV screen go bad, but my NAV screen works, just intermittently.

I don't care much about the nav screen at all, or the radio but controlling HVAC through the touch screen and buttons on the console is my only concern. We have cold winters and hot summers, and I'm now considering selling the car after finding out that the dealer wants more than $2,500 to replace it; which I don't feel comfortable doing in a nearly 20 year old $7,500 car.

Just curious if anyone has had this happen to them and if they had a solution? I did notice that that the 2001 model years (and not sure what other years) had physical buttons to run HVAC instead of the screen, and was wondering if I could switch the whole unit out for the older system.

Thanks in advance for any advice! I've been a part of some other automotive forms in the past and Club Lexus seems pretty amazing so far!
