Default Strange radio issue 2003 Ls 430 UL

So the radio works but you cannot change channel, adjust volume, turn radio on or off. The radio is at same volume and channel since it last worked right. Also the volume **** feels easier to turn, it’s always been on the “stiff” side but I’ve had the car since it was a year old so I think it’s supposed to feel the way it did. Now the **** is more free. Also cannot adjust volume from steering wheel buttons. You can change channels via the screen, and everything on screen works as it should. The lights on the radio buttons when headlights are on are out too. I’ve checked the 3 fuses labeled radio and amp and they are fine. So basically I have no control over radio, but it’s on, and only way to change channels is via the screen. Any ideas?

This sounds so much like the same problem we are having
We also lost power to cd player at the same time. Had it looked at and guy said he's 98% sure its the amp but why would you lose power to cd player???

Last night I realized something. This is an ultra so has radio controls in back seat. Radio is fine from back seat. I can adjust volume change channels and turn radio off. So it not amp. It has to be the unit where ***** are I would think.

Pop the radio unit out, remove all the connectors and spray some contact cleaner in them before reconnecting and testing.
However, if the volume **** was stiff and is now much easier, it sounds like something broke in there.
Only option then would be to get a used radio from eBay and fit that.
Unless yer an electronics wizz of course. :-)

That "radio unit" is just a control panel and cassette player.
The radio tuner is in the trunk along with the Amp and Nav unit.

Thanks. I thought about pulling it out and cleaning contacts. I saw radio modules on ebay and wondered where it was. Sure seems like it’s the head unit since I can control from back seat.
