Default Leaking rear axle shaft

After replacing my rear sway bar end links, I noticed grease build up near the rear differential

Does anyone have experience with this problem? It doesn't look to be leaking that bad right now, no dripping on the floor yet and only near the rear differential. There is no leak on the other side. What does everyone recommend - would I need a new axle shaft or is there a seal I can purchase?

Can you determine if the CV axle boot is torn and leaking grease or the differential seal is leaking gear oil? From the picture it looks like the output seal on the differential is leaking gear oil and needs replacement.

It looks like the axle boot is not torn. Does this look like it's in urgent need of replacement? Everything drives fine so far, but haven't really seen any LS430 owners with this issue. I would like to get it replaced eventually

Just like an engine oil leak, it can leak forever as long as you refill it before it gets too low you'll never have a problem. Once the oil level gets too low it self destructs. How often do you want to check your differential oil level? Or would you rather replace the seal and be done with it until one of the other 2 start leaking?

I just replaced the differential oil 20k miles ago, I think the previous owner never did it. I had all transmission seals replaced a couple of months ago, so the repair costs on seals are adding up. I'll be monitoring this and replace it soon. Unfortunately things seem to fail on this car in short intervals of each other

Why would you expect the differential seals to last longer than the transmission seals?

Get some brake cleaner and clean up the area then asses the leak.

I actually didn't think they would go bad at this mileage, it didn't look like a very common issue after searching. I don't see many posts on here about leaks in general, which is surprising considering the car is approaching 20 years old. I guess people get rid of the car before then or don't post about leaks. With this car, so far I've had to do camseals, oil/transmission pan gaskets, RMS/transmission seals.. and now this.

In my experience these seals easily last the life of the car unless they get damaged when axles are replaced, or transmission oil is never changed.

There is nothing special about a ls430 seal that makes it last longer than any other Toyota product's seal. I'd guess that you don't see many people complain about the diff leaking because a lot people here aren't the DIY type who would check.

Sometimes differential seals leak because they are over filled at the change. Also be sure to use synthetic gear oil on this differential.
Check the level. If it was not leaking before you changed it, odd it would start to leak now.
