I feel like I'm not looking at something that should be staring right at me, but do I really have to turn on the nav screen to adjust the AC fan? I can turn the temp up and down from the dual control gizmo, I can turn the fan off from the fan off button, but I can't turn it back on from the same button.

 

Right. But, you can turn the fan on with the AUTO button next to and left of the off button ... [Raising or lowering temp with the temp buttons located next to the nav screen (2nd picture) will also effect fan speed as conditions will continue to be adjusted automatically....]

1. Push the “AUTO” button.
Air flow quantity, switching of the diffusers,
on−off of the air conditioning, and switching
of the air intake between RECIRCULATED
AIR and OUTSIDE AIR are automatically
adjusted. If you use the air
purifier automatic mode at the same time,
air purifying effect will be enhanced (If
equipped). The operation status is shown
by each indicator.
When one of the manual control buttons is
depressed while operating in automatic
mode, the mode relevant to the depressed
button is set. Other conditions continue to
be adjusted automatically.
Push the “OFF” button briefly to turn the
air conditioning off. If you keep the “OFF”
button pushed, the data for the air filter is
reset.

2. Use the “TEMP” or “PASSENGER
TEMP” button to set the desired temperature.
The “TEMP” or “PASSENGER TEMP”
button is used to set the desired temperature.
The temperature will be controlled on
the driver and front and rear passenger
sides (if rear air conditioning is equipped)
simultaneously or individually. The figures
on the panel indicate degrees Fahrenheit
or Centigrade.
“TEMP” button − Changes the temperature
on the driver and front and rear passenger
sides (if rear air conditioning is
equipped) simultaneously or the driver
side only.
“PASSENGER TEMP” button −
Changes the temperature on the passenger
side only.
“DUAL” button − Changes the mode of
the temperature setting.
The indicator on the “DUAL” button has
two modes:
With the indicator on − For individual
temperature setting
With the indicator off − For simultaneous
temperature setting

SETTING OPERATION − manual control
When one of the manual control buttons
is depressed while operating in
automatic mode, the mode relevant to
the depressed button is set. Other
conditions continue to be adjusted automatically.
If manual air flow selection is desired −
The outlets from which air is delivered can
be selected manually by touching the
switch. The function of each mode is as
follows:
1 Panel − Air flows mainly from the
instrument panel vents.
2 Bi−level − Air flows from both the
floor vents and the instrument panel
vents.
3 Floor − Air flows mainly from the floor
vents.
4 Floor/Windshield − Air flows mainly
from the floor vents and windshield
vents.
The selected mode is highlighted in green.
If quick heating or cooling is desired −
Push the “TEMP” or “PASSENGER
TEMP” button on either side and hold it until
the maximum figure or minimum figure
appears.

Yep, as they mentioned, it is the only way. Car engineers follow trends and learn as they go. They were trying to simplify the dash, and they ended up confusing it, for NAV models. One very interesting design note of the 460's is that all the primary use controls like you're mentioning came back out on the dash. I'll stick with my 430, but I would like those external buttons, and the cup holders..............another thread.

I appreciate you posting all that, but I don't understand most of it. It seems needlessly complicated. I'm assuming the answer is "no."

 

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the search function on this site is ****. I searched this topic for "cup holders" and got thousands of results that have nothing to do with whatever you're talking about.. Having said that, what are you talking about? I'm not real happy about how my cup fits in the holder...

In addition to the one line answer, posted passages verbatim and pictures directly from the Lexus owner's manual which were germane to your question.

I had experienced this already, but it seemed arbitrary and I didn't know why it was happening. Sorry, your answer was adequate, the Lexus jibber jabber is what is needlessly complicated.

 

You are best to search Google outside the site. I type in "LS430.............(rough statement of problem)....", and that is how I find most topics.
All I meant was I did not want to deviate from your topic and get 5 people talking about cup holders and then nobody remembers your original topic. Happens all the time.
Briefly, it took them until the 460 to figure out how to make sunken cup holders so you don't whack your coffee going for controls in the front seat, and you don't have forfeit the entire armrest in the back seat.

 

It's cool, this is resolved. Yeah, I don't think I'll be using them as they have no depth and my cup just wobbles around waiting for a hard turn or stop to dump it. I can securely fit a 44oz big gulp in my Ram 1500 cup holder.

The answer is you can adjust the fan directly by turning on the nav screen and using the controls there and indirectly by using the physical temp buttons on the dash....
