LS 430 Cup Holder Replacement
The right arm on my 01 LS430 UL cup holder stopped holding the cup--in a disastrous way, spilling a 38 oz soda on the passenger seat, floor, door and ceiling. I figured that I would need a new cup holder, even though the arm hadn't broken--it just stopped springing back and didn't hold cups tightly. I googled the issue and found this video on removing the holder--https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCfCCvLHer8. It took me about an hour since I cleaned all of the parts, but the problem was as simple as a loose screw and spring holding the arm. Luckily I didn't order a new cup holder--around $150.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.
Btw--Its been a great car. I bought it in 03 when it had 20k miles for $32k. I now have 252k miles and its always been a reliable, comfortable car. Only maintenance has been scheduled services, a timing belt change at 120k and a/c recharges. For maybe 6 years it has made an occasional grinding sound from the right front which-thanks to this forum-I have diagnosed as a bushing in the air suspension compressor. I may or may not have that fixed since there is no problem with the suspension height or ride.
I started with a 1990 LS when they came out, put 200k miles on it--it had typical 90 LS issues, bought a 96 LX 450--which I still have. It also has 250k miles and has had a/c and radiator issues and torn leather. Got an IS for my daughter. Bought an 01 SC for the wife--which she drove without oil til it threw a rod. Bought an 07 LS460 for her about 6 years ago--also problem-free--and thanks to this forum was able to get a new front dash and door panels to replace the ugly "melted" ones, free from Lexus. So thanks to all of you who contribute and help make a great brand of vehicles even better.

Wow - I am just searching tonight about this for my '01 LS430. Crazy irony you just posted this tip.
I lost the driver's side retaining arm, were you able to see if that part alone is available from Lexus or aftermarket/used avenues? I haven't had any luck myself. I saw the same video, but am cringing at the 100-150 for an entire new unit, pretty sure I can repair mine if I can get a replacement arm for mine that broke off and is no longer in my possession.
Glad to hear you were able to fix yours!
I didn't get to the point of needing to look for a new arm. I'd guess that they are available either used or new arms only. Be sure that you either get a new small spring that attaches to the arm or find the one on your unit. Sorry not to be of more help.
