Almost passed out when i saw this. Paint is bubbled and rusted all the way around the lip. I think i need to take the sunroof out and try to clean it up and por15 it. Any advice? Is this common? Are there instructions on remo
ving the sunroof somewhere? Thanks for any help
You need to drop the entire headliner and I would advise to totally take the frame apart and have it powdercoated instead of messing with that outdated paint

Takes about two hours, be careful with the pillar trim on these since they are not plastic but covered with some type of cloth depending on trim level. Very easy to mess them up

There are four Torx screws that secure the sunroof to its frame at each corner. You have to remove/peel back the plastic accordion piece in order to see them. It's a bit of a tight fit, but ALL YOU NEED TO DO is remove the four Torx screws, give the glass piece a wiggle and it should come out.
When re-assembling, make sure to push up on the glass as you tighten the screws, or else you might get some annoying excessive wind noise.
The previous owner of my LS430 went through this rust problem, so he took it off, gave it a good sanding/cleaning, rust converted, and painted black. Can't even tell it's there today.
It's been over a year and my extra sunroof (the previous owner gave it to me in case his quick fix didn't pan out) is sitting in a closet collecting dust.
