Locating a New Repair Shop
Greetings All,
As some of you may know I will be moving soon. I think it'd be a worthwhile discussion on what things to look for in finding a new mechanic. I've been to many different places to fix my cars such as dealerships and independents shops. What I've found is not all are created equal even if they are "certified". I've Google'd a few and will be comparing and contrasting soon.
How has your experiences been with trying out new mechanics? Also, if anyone has a recommendations in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area, I'm open for suggestions.
Thanks

If you live in a relative small town (say <25,000) for any length of time you get the lay of the land pretty quick about where people go and who is good. Word of mouth and recommendations from trusted humans means a lot more than some reviews on some website which may or may not be legit. . More difficult to do in a larger city, since there are more to choose from. My suggestion is , after asking for recommendations, have a new shop do something small, evaluate their quality and cost, and then build up to larger and more complicated repairs.
I don't known if this board has a "recommended shops" forum but you might look for one and see what people say about Raleigh Durham area. By the way, whenever I have a really involved or difficult repair I will drive over 100 miles to an outstanding shop I know that specializes in the vehicle I own (VW diesel) rather than use a local mechanic. I would probably do the same for a LS 430 if I ever needed something major.

This board is great resource. This board in conjunction with Yelp helped me find a great indy who is very well respected. You want somebody who knows these cars. I won't take my now six-months-in new to me 05 anywhere else.
