Has anyone ever just cranked up the non-functioning tilt motor by hand until the desired position was achieved. Tele still works but that could be eliminated too,..IMO.
You can manually position your steering wheel, both telescopic and tilt, by rotating the respective jack-screws.
To extend and retract the steering wheel, the telescopic motor turns a jack-screw that is anchored to the steering column. To manually re-position you steering wheel, you need to unbolt the 2 bolts for the anchor and free the jack screw from the steering column, then manually pull/push the steering wheel to the desired position, then manually rotate the anchor so that the 2 mounting holes on the anchor match their mating holes on the steering column, then reinstall the 2 mounting bolts. All of the above can be done without being UNDER the steering column.
To manually reposition the "Tilt" position, see the video below (it's not mine) for steps to detach the motor. You will need to rotate the motor manually to back off the jack-screw to your desired tilt position, then re-attached the motor.
thanks, it's just a little too low for me,..I believe I should probably not leave it un plugged, the wires may run other things. The tele I hear is deeper in the column. I'll wait with that,...lol.
When I replaced my telescope motor I broke the little tabs getting the bottom cover off the steering wheel because i put the pry tool on top of them . Be carful where you stick your pry tool.
About a year ago my tilt and telescope were working just fine in my '05. Then, I thought that pulling the fuse for the motors might preserve the motors since I did not need them to move the steering wheel up and in every time I got out of the car, so I pulled the fuse. Put the fuse back in a month ago and lo and behold telescope no worky, But, after a week or so it started to work again! So, I am back to normal. Pulling the fuse was a bad idea. Its good to know that you can reposition the tilt and telescope manually in the future, thanks to RKW..
Their is a little offset universal joint that is on the other end of the telescope shaft. After i replaced the telescope motor i had to manually turn the shaft to get it to start moving again. I think that little universal gets bound up from lack of movement.
