Attached is the 2004 LS430 Warranty and Maintenance booklet (the scheduled maintenance section starts on page 97). Please note that maintenance schedule is by Age and Mileage, whichever comes first.

It entails lot of money changing hands!

This is a 1970's business model where the car needs to be checked every 3-5k.

imho, if you get your oil changed by someone you trust every 5k, you'll be good. At multiples of 90k, there's a timing belt/water pump, so at 180k, that might be something to check, as well as the rear differential/gear oil being replaced. Someone else can chime in on when coolant is done. I think first time is 10/120k, but next is 5/50. Not really sure why, if 10/120k is valid, imho 10/120k again, the chemistry didn't change inside the jug, and it seems arbitrary....jmo ymmv

Lexus service is mostly check, check, check...however the scheduled service seems to stop at 150,000 miles. could just start over I guess.

Wouldn't it be nice if one went to a dealer and said, what do I need at these mileage intervals? Do I really need to pay you $280-$500 each time?

1. 160,000 miles.
2. 165,000 miles.
3. 170,000 miles.
4. 175,000 miles.

And the response were, no, and nothing. Just change the oil every 5k, do a timing belt / water pump every 90k, if you want do your coolant every 5 years after the first 10, rear diff every 90k, and spark plugs every 120k? We refuse to charge you for all those, it wouldn't be right. If I robbed you like that I'd feel unethical and have trouble sleeping at night, instead of being the #1 service advisor in the tri district because I'm honest and treat customers as if they are human beings like myself.

Pretty sure if one were to go to an indie, there would be no such services.

Chemistry and scale content changed inside the engine and it's very hard to get 100% of the old totally out and then to somehow clean every passage perfectly.

There won't be, only as actually needed if something is wrong or the customer is uncertain when something was last done and wants it done anyway. If it shows up and checks out well services won't be performed and the customer will be called and told their diff doesn't need anything

I rearrange the maintenance schedule on the spreadsheet below. You may use your own judgement to determine what the pattern is telling you.

That's a great point, unfortunately, even DIY, I've never undone anything on the engine block to get the coolant out (then again neither does the Lexus dealership, I did it one time for $129 and the invoice clearly said drain/fill--dunno why they don't hook up a machine like BMW does--invoice says coolant exchange, price was $140--muffler shops hook up a machine and charge about $80). Toyota coolant is super expensive, but one can use pink Asian Zerex instead and it's more reasonable....
