Default Cupholder opens too fast

I looked through every cupholder thread I could find, and only found one mention of this problem with no solution The cupholder on my 06 opens and closes fine, stays the way it's supposed to, and the arms work fine. The problem is that it just springs open, I think another poster likened it to a Jack In The Box. I took it out and looked it over, no loose screws, everything operated smoothly, but there's no springs or anything that I could see that would slow the movement. I looked at the ashtray lid, and you can tell there's opposing springs, so it opens, but at a controled rate. I've seen multiple videos and know that it shouldn't spring open like this, so short of buying a new cupholder, can anyone point me in the direction of what I'm missing on mine?

Maybe this can help? Step by step and proper function at 7:00 (and, near the end of the vid at 7:30 is advice to help everyone!).

Yes, I've already seen the video, and I have already removed the cupholder completely, and cleaned it and examined it to try to figure out what's missing. I just don't see any mechanism that would slow or regulate the opening of the cupholder. I don't have a problem removing/installing, that is very easy, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what controls the opening of the cupholder, because mine just springs open.

Mine springs open. Being fast is not always a bad thing, especially when entering the car with a hot cup of coffee. Mine has worked this way for 120,000 miles over and 12 years. Purchased it as a CPO and everything worked like new.

I’m having the same problem as OP, thought this was the culprit but it’d something else.

You just need a Coke spilled in it to gum up and slow it down.
