Default Emissions device question

2001 LS430 employs a "Fuel vapor feed pipe", which works in tandem with one of the vacuum switching components...

It is a small black hollow cube in series with the emission hose from VSV to the green-tagged evap service port.

Anyone with information as to what purpose it serves?

Arguably, Toyota expended engineering time and resources adding this component..

Thank you.

Item 23818 on exploded parts diagram

Does not appear to be a check valve...just a hollow plastic square in series with emission hose to VSV.

VSV side. Arrow is for vacuum flow or mounting orientation?

It's actually called a hose by Lexus. It is hollow inside. Mine was broken on my car so I just installed a longer piece of rubber emissions hose and eliminated it with no ill effects.
