Good for butt dyno proven +87hp over limp mode baseline!
The Stage 1 hack of connecting both ECU knock sensor channels to one good sensor worked for a while, but eventually the other sensor and/or wiring failed as well. I still didn't feel like taking the intake off, I really didn't want to spend $$$ on OEM sensors/wiring, and I damn sure didn't want to put cheapo knock-off sensors that don't last in a place where I have to spend ~$100 on gaskets to get to them, so I had a local shop weld an M12-1.25 nut to the top of the evap solenoid bolt, and stuck the cheap knockoff sensor on the top where I can change it in less than a minute if/when it dies. The ~$20 ebay sensor kit came with the wiring harness that I cut into and spliced into the ECU as well as a second spare sensor I can use if the one I installed stops working.
Yes, I know this is a horrible hack job. Yes, I know that this may or may not detect knock properly, which could cause engine damage, or maybe less timing/power/efficiency if it detects knock when there isn't any. I don't care. This engine has 240kmi on it, and I would honestly rather buy a junkyard pullout to slap in the car before I pay the nearly $1,000 my local Lexus dealer quoted me for the parts I would need to do it right. So far, after a week of driving it, it hasn't thrown any codes yet, and it runs just as well as it did before the sensor problems.
