I have a 2004 LS430. I have to park the car outside. The problem is I now live in central Florida where the sun is overwhelmingly Strong mostly all year. The great and constant heat and sun here kills batteries, destroys belts, eats paint and clouds up the plastic headlight covers.. I had none of this in all my years in N.Y. but in just two years here I had all of it. There are some cleaners for the headlights but I'm told don't use them because they will destroy the clear coat and you will have to be constantly cleaning them. A set of new plastic covers on ebay is $380 and that is not installed. Any good ideas on my best way to handle this. Thanks to all....
I used meguiar's heavy duty headlight restoration kit on my ls430 last week. It comes with some clear coat and applicator pad. I think it turned out well and hopefully it will last a long time! It was super easy but it took me about 2 hours to finish, lol. I can be a little OCD at times .
impressive. this is on my to do list this summer. I hate the look on my lenses right now and was considering swapping the covers, but price was ridiculous.
There are different methods and products you can use, but you need to basically remove oxidation. I have done it using a 3M kit, and you are wet sanding with progressively finer sand paper, and finishing with a rubbing compound. It takes a while the first time or two.
I don't know about your area, but in my area Walmart will do it for $25. I think I might go that route next time, but I'm not sure.
Living in Florida for the last 25 years, I have used the same headlight restoration service for all my cars. The guy comes to my house and spends about 1 to 1 1/2 hours for both headlights and finishes with a clear coat. This is the only service this guy specializes in and he stays pretty busy! There's a 3 year warranty against peeling and fading. I used the warranty one time and he promptly came out after 3 years to redo it. I am not going out into the blistering heat to do what this guy does well to save a few bucks. I believe he charged me $125 the last time which was a few years ago. Headlights still look excellent and close to new. Most products may improve the fading but it will need to be done again down the road. The clear coat slows down the fading process and is the best way to go for the best results.
I used 3m headlight restoration kit you attach it to a drill took me 2 hrs to finish, the middle badge was very hazy and ugly now it’s shining bright should i give it a coat of clear coat or should I get clear Vinyl

Clear vinyl can get yellow overtime in addition to it not being tested for UV protection for Plastic. Also on some cars it’s problemstic for allowing the headlights to cool. That’s the reason I didn’t put them on my 17 QX50. Also they can affect the acuity of headlight beam not to mention any warranty issues.
Im going to ORiley’s thank you for the recommendation
i just applied it and wow I thought it was already clear but that product made it way better

Sold! Will get me some. Mine were perfect when I bought the car in 2016, but 3 yrs. later I see haze starting. My wife's 2011 GM SUV purchased new, has never seen a garage. So it too is starting to haze.
My garage queen was delivered 12/06 and has been in a garage its life. Headlights clear as the day the car was driven off the ship. Seriously garages are very kind to vehicles. I don't think I would ever buy a nice car new, unless it could be garaged...
Blue Magic is available at the Dollar store. One application is good for YEARS. Less than $5. I have used the expensive solutions and the "Guy" None worked as easy or as cheap or for so long as Blue Magic.

Good deal! I can report that after 2 weeks and a few car washes the headlights still look brand new! That clear coat works very well. I remember buying a headlight kit for my old 03 es300 and in 2 weeks it was almost back to being cloudy, lol.
