Hey guys!

My 2001 LS430 has recently had this issue where the steering wheel locks up for about a second on hard acceleration. This seems to only happen when accelerating from a dead stop. Any ideas on what I should be looking at to correct this issue? I'd like to fix this myself if possible. I've been having this issue since last Friday.

I've only owned the car for a year and it currently has 145k miles and I purchased it at 136k.

my guess is that your motor mounts are too soft, and it is binding the steering linkage slightly.

 

Turns out my motor mounts were shot! Replaced them and everything is good again.
