I’m about to install it but I don’t understand the DIP switches and what my 2005 UL has.
I listen to the Sat radio a lot so I’d like that to still be useable, I would also still like to use the 6-CD changer.. is that possible?
I dont understand the different names for their emulation modes. I’ve never seen an option for whatever MD or DVD is - how would I get there if that’s what the switches are set for?
Also, it says use that DVD mode for Nav units with MP3 printed on them. I can’t seem to find a pic online of any LS430 with that text printed on their radio areas.
Based off of the above, what DIP settings should I use?
you'll need to use either CDC or CDC1, i don't remember what exactly mine is set to
just plug it in and play with it before you tuck everything in and close it up
your CD changer and SAT functions won't be affected.
you basically need to set it to where it connects to your system on CD2 function, from CD1 mode press CD button once more and top left should display CD2, disk 4 is for your bluetooth streaming, disk 6 is for AUX input (you get to disk 6 by pressing the CH^/DISCv button) remember this disc4/disc 6 function when you accidentally press the up/down button and then you have no sound when you try to stream via bluetooth
you can coil the wire and tuck the module just in front of the shifter, there is room there on the left, you'll see it when you open it up
i opted not to run the mic that comes with it, stock bluetooth works just fine, no need to go through all the trouble of running a new wire, just go to your bluetooth settings and specify for BT TOY to handle audio only and you'll be fine
I also installed this instead of my cig lighter in the ashtray https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it fits tight but no filing of stock hole was needed
this acts as an extension of the BT TOY's USB and AUX ports and gives me USB charger plug and i can plug in the AUX wire in it if i ever need to, instead of having wires ran from BT TOY module and dangling somewhere
So with those CDC/CD1 settings it says on that page for text to appear the radio must show that picture. Mine doesn’t have “TEXT” under that Dolby Digital thing - and it doesn’t show text for my CD’s.. It also doesn’t say MP3 anywhere like it describes for the DVD dip setting.. Weird since this is an Ultra Lux - Id imagine it would have the radio with the extras too..
For that CD setting, you’re saying I would hit the physical CD button below the tape deck and it’ll appear on the screen as CD2? Then I’d tap Disc 4 on the Nav screen? I tried hitting the CD button now (no BT45 connected) and it just says CD, not even CD1.
Also, they suggest putting the trans in Drive to have some more room.. does having the ignition on while unplugging/plugging those things in negatively affect anything?
What it means by "text" is that its going to display your track info in text only, no album art/pictures will be displayed.
Dont worry about dvd/mp3 settings, we dont have it, unless you have a dvd player instead of cd changer.
For your track info to appear you have to hit the "track info" button on the touchscreen manually.
I dont remember if it does display it while you play a regular cd. Why Toyota didnt incorporate mp3's i have no idea... probably because at the development stage (in early 2000's) the mp3 format wasnt that stable and they didnt want to bother with having to support all that with customers putting in god knows what and then complaining "my mp3's arent playing".
You have to have BT45 connected in order to be able to have it come up on CD2 function, without it nothing will happen.
Put your E-brake on, take your metal key, pop the emergency shifter release cover, stick the key in and youll be able to move the shifter to wherever without having to have ignition on (draining your battery).
E-brake. I was tinkering in my car in the evening, shifted it in neutral and it rolled out of the driveway oh so slowly... scared the crap out of me, i thought it was an earthquake when it hit the street... 😱
But if you have ignition on it wont trigger anything, just dont drain your battery. Mine didnt want to start after voltage dropped to 10v.

Yeah it’s weird. I was worried it wouldn’t work but sure enough there it is! The DIP page in the BT45 manual shows pictures of markings on the radio that don’t exist on the LS430 apparently.. that’s why it was confusing me. It’s weird they didn’t have that text stock though.. my 2002 BMW without Nav or anything had text scrolling of the song/artist info.
I thought of that for the trans override slot, but talked myself out of it for stupid reasons I’m too embarrassed to admit. So I tried putting it in drive and then turning the car off. It’ll only let you go back to the accessory position which I thought was ok, maybe a little less battery drain. Thankfully I’m on flat ground, ha! Didn’t budge an inch. Parking brake would have been next.
Here I moved the cables away from that metal circled in red. I noticed they made sure in routing the original cables that none were near it, and had what looks like extra heat shield tape or whatever. Felt warm too so..didn’t want it making contact.
Here you can see circled in red is the third screw to hold that middle section in. The yellow is how the bracket is shaped. It comes out from the back to a point around that screw so there’s space to route cables on either side without them being squished. Circled in green is some airbag module that also felt warm.. it also has some protective plastic film around it so I avoided cables touching that too - you can see how I have the cables looping on top of the black air duct on the right side - visible in the next picture as well.
Here you can see where I have the actual BT45 unit situated. It sits right in front of the gear selector with the front of it facing towards the ground, and the top of the unit facing the direction of the front of the car. There’s some felt on the bottom (where the face/front of the unit is touching), another soft bit blocking the gear selector area where the bottom of the BT touches, and that little flap I was able to put over the back of the BT without stressing it yet, enough to perhaps help it from jiggling around too much.
I’ll see tomorrow when I drive in if there’s any rattling noises. I really hope not as prying off those trim pieces scared the ***** out of me.
