Default Steering wheel volume controls

Currently driving a 2001 LS 430 (ML) and loving it. There's just this one thing that's kind of bothering me, but not enough to warrant a trip to the dealer.

All my steering wheel controls are functional, except the group that does the radio volume and voice control.

Like I said, not the end of the world (I can also move my right hand an inch to reach for the radio), but it would be kind of nice to have all the buttons working.

My car has an aftermarket Bluetooth upgrade to replace an old school Motorola in the middle arm rest that also doesn't work. Are these two on the same circuit by any chance? I've already checked fuse nr 36 in the passenger side fuse box.

Does anyone have some pointers to what might be causing the problem?

I have an aftermarket BT system (Parrot MKi9200) and all of my buttons on the front and back side of steering wheel function as they should. It's possible that whoever installed it did so incorrectly and managed to mess up the factory steering wheel buttons.

You can reset the volume controls. Go to post #9. I had to do this to my LS.

Just tried your suggestion: no dice, unfortunately. I did read in the thread you mentioned that the cabling in the steering wheel/column can be problematic. If that's the case I might just leave it be, because that sounds like it might be an expensive fix for a relatively minor problem.
