when in reverse gear the central display although showing the rear surroundings has a message of 'system not ready'. I did hear that it should display some green lines to aid parking. The man I bought it off had the camera replaced
any ideas?

have you looked at the camera at all? It's right above your license plate. Is the camera he replaced it with a oem camera? aka a brand new lexus camera from the dealer? or ebay crap?
also there would be a part number on the camera if you do manage to get it out. i can also go out to my car and snap a pic of my backup camera if you'd like.
the message is probably from the camera not being compatable with the lexus nav system??? im not sure about the message, but if it is a oem camera it should be working, does your nav and everything else work? climate?
just been out and it looks like a proper lexus camera. everything else is working fine. I did ask at the lexus dealership and no one there knew what this message was for either
Have you disconnected the battery recently? I got this message when I forgot to waiting the allotted amount of time after turning the car off before disconnecting the battery on my 460.
Tried disconnecting the battery for an hour and reconnecting. No difference. I know the parking guide is not really needed-you can always look for yourself but it is there so would appreciate if anyone knows of a simple fix

Make sure the camera is hooked up correctly behind the center console, if so then start at the trunk check for power to the camera and work your way back to the front of the vehicle checking the connections and anytjing that has to do with the camera. Maybe a wire got pinched and is grounding out because of improperly installed interior trim. Anything is a possibility at this point you do not knoe ehat the other person did or did not do.
