Default '02 Transmission Dipstick Stuck?

I've tried twisting my dipstick right and left but it's barely moving and therefore I cannot pull it out to check the fluid level and color. Am I doing this wrong or missing something? The manual mentions nothing about how to check the transmission fluid so I just assumed that checking it would be the same as on my LS400.

You need to be a Houdini to get the stick in by twisting it and turning it and pulling and pushing. Getting it out was never much of a problem but it does like to stick. It’s definutely not user friendly.

There is a metal locking tab that needs to be pushed out of the way first. Use a flashlight.

2004-2006 LS uses a 6 speed AT that does not have a dipstick. These transmissions are not sealed. They have a drain port and a fill port accessed from underneath the car.

2001-2003 LS uses a 5 speed AT that has a dipstick making it much easier to check fluid condition and level and refill after a drain.

Confirmed. The engine shown is a 2002 LS430 engine. It is the same engine for all 2001 through 2003 LS430. Likewise, your 2002 LS430 should have an ATF dipstick.
