I had an 02 to which I added aftermarket backup camera with naviks...backup camera was cheap Amazon crap with amazing results, maybe $12.
I now have an 04 with factory backup camera...reminds me of iPhone 3 camera.
Has anyone ever tried replacing the OEM canera with an aftermarket?
Thoughts welcome.

 

I'd also like to know. The stock cam in this day and age is so outdated

 

now that it is getting colder and this is my first winter with my '04 LS430 the camera works 1 out of 3 times, the other times the screen turns black when in reverse. Would love to know if there is a simple fix.

 

The camera could be HD or 4k but the screen will need to be replaced if you want better pictures.

 

Replace the screen, has that EVER been done - or even attempted?

I installed a $25 camera from Amazon in our '04 SC430; used Naviks interface. The on-sreen image is very nice, far nicer than our '04 LS430; pleasantly surprised that somehow that Gen 2 screen could look so good.
?Maybe it's the Naviks?

 

My 02 had the same screen that the 04 does. World of difference in the picture from the aftermarket camera running through naviks.
