Try Tirerack.com and plug-in your vehicle. Use the performance charts to come up with a quality/value/price position you are comfortable buying at.

 

The factory tires are Michellins. The sizes vary with which wheels your car came with.

I personally have used Nankang NS20's, Nitto's NT555's, and Hankook's Ventus V12's for my factory wheels and my aftermarket wheels. The OEM tires were too pricey.

 

More ys spend better the tire but Pirelli Michelin Pirelli are all usually top rated FWIW. Does not mean other tires are less than good tires but nice to get a ride tire warrantee in case ya dont like em ya got 30 days.

 

Do a search and you'll find lots of opinions on this subject.

 

most recent Consumer Reports has Continental #1 followed closely by Pirelli and Michelin. any of those should be good but there are lesser known brands that are also worth a look

 

Are the 04-06 oem factory wheels/rims compatible with the 01-03 models. What are the main differences.

 

my factory tires are Dunlop SP's, the spare in the trunk is original and almost never used (I see tiny pebbles in the tread, but the rim is mint and has grease markings from the factory).

My mind seems to be made up, Michelin Pilot sport A/S 3+'s, not Premiers (my wife has them and I'm not liking them), but I am probably 50k+ away. When I bought my car used, it had new Rydanz Roadster 02's. I've driven them about 7k, and they are good/fine in rain, sun, highway, city, etc. Made in China, engineered in Europe they say.

Have Premiers. Quiet comfortable but soft. Not a driver's tire. Agree on MPS A/S 3. That's my planned replacement (soon).

 

I'm just not sure if I believe how Premiers are great when new, and great when worn, per Michelin. They start off with 2.5/32" less tread. I look at my LS and my wife's car, and her tires are much newer, but have a worn appearance. And little pieces of rubber maybe from the molding are all falling off. They're probably harmless, but I just don't like how it looks. I tried to ignore that Premiers start with 8.5/32 based on the warranty miles, but decided I can't ignore it. My buddy put 2 sets on his Navigator, and a 3rd set on his wife's Q5, and said he never really noticed the above until I mentioned it. But he did push his first set on the Navi 70k.

My Rydanz look new, and I put almost 8k on them already....prolly gonna have them years...

 

OP never checked back, so I wonder what he chose. FWIW, I just ordered a set of the Pirelli Cinturato P7s. I just didn't feel like spending double for a slightly better tire with the Michelin. 98/each from simpletire.com

 

Those tires are $176 on that sight in 18s. How did you get them for $98?

 

I have 225/55/17 on my 2001. They are listed for 99.92 a piece right now... Interesting....

 

The mark up from 17 to 18 is crazy.
