Metallic colors are the worst to gather a match.

The "pens" are a true pita. The paint vials are, as Jabberwok states the way to go when used judiciously.

The fact that perfection is nearly impossible.... Yep.

A re spray is the only procedure that really does the job when done by a pro.

You're right about matching on metallic paints. Bought the pens but from what I am reading here, don't plan to use. I got a respray quote of 950 to do the hood. High end shop so high end price. Not worth it for rock chips.

I looked at the hood yet again, and being huge craters, don't feel that satisfied, yet, the color is perfect....so again I feel the size of the chip s a limiting factor....a crater is being filled in, so normally, you still see the crater, but it now is not bare, and matches perfectly. You can attempt to build it up--I saw a pro do this on my BMW, he took 2 hours. In the end, I had the same feeling, but he did do it as best as humanly possible, incl. the clear. So it's just a stop gap if you will, I wouldn't do this if say you got sprayed by a dump truck etc.....but it's better than bare metal...

agree $950 is not worth it on a car this old......

And I notice the OE touch up has a roughing "pen" at the end, I would not use that, it would make the area worse. I do notice that the base coat alone touches up nicely on the bumper/plastic.

I've have primer, base and clear which came in 2 oz bottles to touch up some spots on my bumper. I'm probably going to wet sand it first and maybe mix the 2 base coats with the clear before applying. I watched a couple of real good videos on the process. Now I just have to find the time to do it. I bought a DA polisher and lots of detailing equipment to start maintaining the paint on my cars so this is consuming a lot of my spare time ( Which there is not much of ) at the moment.
