Hi everyone, I'm looking to replace the cubby that is to the right of the ECT/Power/Snow switch. The spring mechanism is shot and it doesn't retract fully or sit flush anymore. Does someone have a part number for that?
I don't have the part number. If I did, my guess is that the part would be very expensive. I have had good luck buying parts like this from ebay. Try searching for "LS430 console storage" or a variation. You can buy a used one and use the parts to rebuild your original. That way, you can use your original "wood grain" cover. For example, I did this with the coin storage box to the left of the steering wheel. I removed the black door cover from the replacement, substituted my original ivory cover and installed it in my car. Good luck.
Is it possible that the wood grain/color was slightly changed after the 01 thru 03 models? That would explain whey they don't state compatability with the other years. Just a thought.

The wood grain and color is different between every car. Supposedly when these cars were built all of the trim in each car came from the same tree. There is usually quite a bit of variation in the grain, color is usually pretty close but different wood takes stain differently.

I was aware of that. When I replaced my console ash tray for a storage/voltage outlet box it came with a lid that was hard to tell that there was any difference from my lid. Regardless, I took my lid off and fitted it on the storage box, just to make sure that I would be completely satisfied and not have any doubts whatsoever.
Bumping this post to see if anyone successfully replaced the door on the little cubby box with the original one from your car when swapping it out. Mine isn't opening and closing correctly and needs to be replaced.
Haven't undertaken it yet, but concerned about all those I'm seeing on ebay matching the wood in my Ultra dash. It's the little box at the bottom right
The spring/latch mechanism in the little box at the bottom right can sometimes jam, but chances are it isn't broken. Mine used to not lock closed because I had too much slack SL2Vi wire in there along with my iPod, so when I forced the box closed, the latching mechanism would close in the wrong way and jam. I had to do the reset latch procedure several times before I eliminated the slack wire and made sure there was no restriction upon closing, and with zero restriction upon closing, it has worked fine for years now.
To reset the latch, you have to take out the entire thing, turn it upside down, then figure out how the locking mechanism works. I haven't had to do this in several years, but I recall there is a tab, a spring, and a peg that moves in a semi-circle. You just need to hold one part and jiggle another part to reset it. You should also be able to see where and why it jams when you turn it upside down. However, if you see that plastic has snapped off somewhere, then you'll need to superglue/jbweld a fix, or get a new box.
As mentioned above, the new box part # is 58880-50010 and if brand new, shouldn't come with a trim plate.
Trim Plate part numbers:
55432-50030-E1 LIGHT BROWN, TRIM03,20
55432-50030-B0 LIGHT GRAY, TRIM05
55432-50030-D0 BORDEAUX, TRIM27,29
55432-50030-E0 MD BROWN, TRIM04,1
To update, mine was definitely broken. There are a couple of little tabs that hold the spring in place that were sheared off - pic of the old one below with the missing tabs. For folks looking at theirs in person, the spring isn't a wire; it's more of a chewing gum size piece of metal that's wound up but covered with a black insulator film.
I bought a used drawer from ebay for ~$25 and my wife (who is the mechanic in the house) was able to easily pop the front wood off my existing one easily using the tabs in the picture below then put it on the replacement box and re-install. Picture shows the ebay box wood installed on my broken drawer as an example.
I had saved off the instructions for this for when we put in the non-smokers box a few months ago, so took a picture of the specific instructions for how to remove and uploading here for future folks who encounter this as well.
