planning out the oil changes
Here's what I'm going to do....both Mobil 1 and Pennzoil have rebates. Mobil 1 $12 limit 2. Pennzoil $10 limit 4, all year.
Getting android pay $5 offers from amex and Discover, i.e. use your android to tap out, get $5 off, up to 3X on Amex, and 10X on Discover. This means I should be able to get an add'l $5 off for 6 jugs of oil, i.e. $17 off the Mobil 1, and $15 off the Pennzoil. Yep, as you can see, every little bit counts in my household, I'd rather pay less than more....
p.s. I find Mobil is super fast on the rebate, Pennzoil is super slow and always has been (Shell), both are uploaded online. So even though it's not required, I will always use full synth in the LS430.
edit: actually the Pennzoil is not limit 4, I believe it's limit $48, but works out to 4 jugs, because 5 jugs @ $10/jug would be over $48 and would not work (great marketing)

You got me, I found out Walmart opposes Android pay! I guess I'll have to just use Android pay elsewhere to max out 3X AMEX, and 10X discover, so technically it won't be for the oil anymore....
But the rebates would be valid anywhere....

The rebates of course are valid if you purchase anywhere, and easy to upload via your pc. Again, Mobil 1 is limit 2. Pennzoil is limit $48 for 2017, which works out to 4 jugs @ $10 = $40. You'd have to buy 4 individual quarts for another $8, but they cost more per unit. I'd say Walmart is the best place to pick the oil up.
Saving money is my thing, I know it's not for most when you drive a "Lexus" lol. Thanks to Pennzoil a few years ago, I was able to buy 20 gal of fuel at $0.259. As I recall fuel was well over $3 (saved $3/gal times limit 20 gal = $60 off), so the savings was exactly $60. Two things interesting about this promotion--if say you pump 14 gal, you've used up the promotion, you can't then go back and get another 6. Genius!! Get people to leave their $20 rebate on the table! But what backfired was in the distribution chain, the $20 rebate codes were being stolen by people opening up the caps and taking the codes and redeeming. Those who bought the oil would find that the codes were already used (human nature)--the only clue would be the caps didn't twist off properly as they had already been opened.
My rich cousin goes what'd ya have to do for this rebate (insinuating I got taken advantage of, clipping coupons cuz he's the big shot M5 driver on Wall street lol)? I said buy 3 jugs of Pennzoil Platinum that I was gonna use anyway....his response was I don't do my own oil and my car doesn't use Pennzoil (he uses the $15/qt. M5 oil that most big shots use lol). I am resolved in my next life to not be a saver, admittedly that would be nice.

I guess I take after my mom....my brother can't be bothered with rebates and clipping coupons, and he's not rich. If you check the other CL forum, I told the guys I was so happy in saving $4.xx/mo. off my cable bill, for doing nothing, just logging in and clicking add to cart and checking out (new added discount on set top boxes). My reasoning is if their taxes and fees are $16/mo., and only $5 are legit, I feel good to remove $4 and change from what I'm paying them monthly, for doing nothing more than clicking my mouse...then multiply by 23 mos., and it's $102 out of thin air...
Back to the oil, good chance to stock up 6 5 qt jugs, 2 Mobil 1, 4 Pennzoil, and all with $10-$12 rebates....the add'l $5 android pay would have been nice, but I can simply pay for something else at the grocery store and get those $5 incentives (my hunch is that's the price they are willing to pay, to get you to start using it)...

I would grab 1 or 2 jugs of Mobil 1 at Walmart, then upload the receipt here.....Mobil 1 since the current offer expires 5/31/17. Pennzoil is good until 12/31/17....

Cool! Did the Mobil rebate last year, ended up buying 8 five quart jugs (used my parents, sister, and brother in laws addresses for the rebate checks). Great deal. Time to stock up. Ended up paying $2 a quart when all was said and done (Walmart had the oil on sale). Hopefully I can hit it like that again this year. I love a good bargain...can't beat this one.

I use Mobile 1 in every one of my cars for years. Bottom line...Even if you put the worst cheapest oil known to man in the LS430....... the LS430 will run forever as long as you change the oil regularly.

This is awesome! Thanks! I love how cheap Mobil 1 is at walmart and this is going to be fantastic for the next few oil changes. It's a shame that so much inflation comes from things that are less than discretionary to buy (housing, health insurance, and college primarily) because it'd be so cost effective to live a pretty good life - drive an old Lexus, eat vegetables, drink some beer, watch youtube, and pay a few pennies an hour to run a fast instance on the Cloud/someone else's computer - if you could just pay 1970s prices for those things (keep dreaming!).
I'm still working through my stash of Rotella that I picked up during a rebate (for the motorcycles / lawn mower / ect.). It's so nice that such good oil is so cheap, I'm sure synthetic isn't the most cost-effective but when the premium is just a few dollars and amortized over thousands of miles, it's pretty cheap peace of mind. So I can't wait to hoard this and add it to my collection and dream about how many oil changes I can give my fleet before I have to get new oil.
In the words of my generation, "I AM LIVING" to find out that so many people on this forum love a good deal. I can't compete with that $.24/gallon gas but I used coupons during a date at burger king. And I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get insurance between my policy expiration (imminent) and my 25th birthday (within a few weeks) so that I can shop for auto insurance as an aged, wise man and some some punk who wants to listen to metallica and do doughnuts in a parking lot.
There's something great about Toyotas for minimizing car expenses. Growing up, my neighbor (a principal attorney for a large law firm) drove a Volvo into the ground and went shopping for a new car. He was at the Volvo dealer when he spied a great deal on a Corolla in the used car lot of the Volvo dealer. He came home with a Corolla on steelies and according to my dad, he's still driving it. You gotta love that!! I wonder if he knows about this good deal on oil...

The way the rebate worked, was you could stack them, on a credit card thing by Shell (it's all coming back).....the rebate was presented as $1/gal. off, "up to 20 gal." So as mentioned, if you pumped 14 gal, you saved $14, not $20. You could have 4 rebates or $4/gal off, and if fuel were $3.299, you'd save $3/gal, and have the extra $1 to still use, up to 20 gal (I didn't want to test it, so I only put 3 rebates on one card at a time). Since my wife's SUV takes like 22 gal, I could get the full 20. But imagine if your car only took 18, or 14, etc. I suppose you could bring a gas can for the mower.
I like too how Pennzoil just made the rebate for the entire year of 2016, and 2017, so you don't have to rush.....
edit: I did use up all the oil that I bought, even remember I got 2 Mobil 1 last year, and 3 Pennzoil Platinum, and all that is left is 1 jug of Pennzoil. Now, I do have 2 jugs of Mobil 1 Euro, and it's the old stuff that has the LL-01 designation for the BMW (changed late 2015). So with all my "hoarding," I really only have at this moment 3 jugs of oil....(but I will grab some Mobil 1 soon!)
