Welcome aboard GM, from a fellow Wisconsinite. There's lots of great info in various threads on the forum discussing the TB service on the LS. The Aisin Kit is THE kit to buy, with the water pump and cam seals, I think it's around 300 or so. Check Amazon. You'll find great tutorials on here as well.

Post pics when you can!

Jim

The Aisin TKT 021 is very popular as it includes the tensioner (some reuse it at 90k, but why not replace while in there). Remember to get the Asian sllc2 coolant at Walmart. $8.xx vs $26/gal at Toyota, for 50/50...

Hi Jim,

I am in the process of replacing a timing belt on my Lexus CS430 2005 and my mechanic is recommending the Aisin kit as well. Given that the kit is around $300 (I think I have seen some for $250 on ebay), is it reasonable to charge me $750 for both the kit and work done to replace it? I am just wondering if I should be shopping around. Any response is appreciated. I am also new to this site and to Lexus in general

The Aisin kit is only $170 at RockAuto.

I've also used the Gates kit ($150) on a number of our Lexus (2xGS400, IS300) with success.

Looking at it as one job, I would say $750 is reasonable--my indie returned the old parts, in the Aisin box. That is desirable imho, just a good touchy feely gesture assuring me that they used the Aisin kit, and I could see what came out. Mine would also install my parts if desired, but I'm not sure how much I would save, maybe $150? But they said your parts, no warranty, our parts, full warranty....so rather just pay them even if they marked up over the web pricing....and they don't get the parts from the web. Came from a distributor, all the info was on the box, with my name, and their shop address...

Since your car is at 107k? You might want to consider getting the front lower control arm bushings replaced, those are a bang for buck item. $100-$150 OEM for the parts on eBay, anywhere from $150-$300 labor to press them out/in install. Lexus gets $1,400 for the job....

Hi John,

Thanks for you reply. Yes, my mechanic also told me he will return the old parts in the Asian box just to ease my mind. He gets his kits from a distributor. He also gives 2 years warranty on both parts and labor. So yeah I think I will just go with this one. I will also ask him to look at the front lower control arm bushings. Thanks for the heads up!

The only thing is that the kit he has at hand (and wants to use on my car) was meant for another Lexus (as far as I remember him telling me not the same model as mine), so my name is not on the box. He called me the next day to say that the guy he ordered it for changed his mind and that it would also fit my Lexus. I am very concerned about this part, because I did some research and I can't find any kits that would fir SC430 and other Lexuses. Any thoughts? :/

Which kit? If the timing belt kit, the LS430, GS430 and SC430 all use the same kit.
