smooth as silk?
I'm totally jealous of you people who experience a smooth as silk ride. I experience anything but on my '04 UL and I have air ride.
Honestly, I know why. It's because the previous owner put brand new tires on it within like a hundred miles of selling it to me and since he was selling it, he pretty much put on one of the cheapest tires he could. I looked them up once and I think I found them going for like $48 a piece. As you can imagine they don't provide a smooth ride AT ALL and are noisy as hell, even with double laminated glass or whatever you call it. The car is so loud and bumpy, even on relatively smooth roads. I think it is hurting my MPG as well as I rarely get over 16 MPG even when I try to drive gently, which isn't that often TBH.
I just can't justify putting on new tires when they still have so much tread left. I've put about 15k on them since I bought the car six months ago and done a few burnouts but yet there is so much tread remaining. I'm leaning towards upgrading to some 18" rims so I'll probably wait until then to get some new tires and then put some good winter tires on my OEM 17" rims, even though these cheap tires performed quite impressively this winter, minus one incident where I never should have been driving because the weather was so bad and I was overconfident because the traction control is just amazing in these cars.
