Default Question regarding car battery area

I purchased an LS430 a couple months ago and noticed the battery hold-down rods are missing.

Yet, I look on a Lexus dealer part site and do not see rods, but an "insulator", which you see at the top in the drawing below.

Please advise - thank you!

Don

There should be both....some said to discard the plastic, but I say no....it would keep any acid contained to the plastic tray....

Mine also has the same rods.

You should be able to find a battery hold down kit at any auto parts store. It's a good idea to have it secured down and not bouncing around.

It's the battery carrier parts you're missing. You may as well get the correct fitting parts > http://www.lexussouthatlantaparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=756820&ukey_make=1082&ukey_model=15670&modelYear=2006&ukey_driveLine=8086&searchString=battery%20tray

You can buy the rods at any auto parts store. I went the fancy route and bought the billet aluminum FIGS hold down bracket. looks and works great.

I'll never know for sure, but I have a hunch battery acid ruined my Maxima's front fender. It had that sleeve but I didn't use it when replacing the battery for the first time when the car was about 6 y.o. I get the feeling that the LS contains all the gassing and acid in the sleeve and the tray, so that none of it reaches the body. I noticed that the paint is clearly gone where the bar goes in-between the two filler caps, so something is going on around the battery.

btw the one downfall of the Costco batteries, I notice that even in my wife's size for her SUV, there is clearly no vent tube on the batteries for sale. But it does have a hole where the tube belongs. Not sure why Costco is missing that part. Walmart too. Pep Boys has it.
