Default New owner with question-

New to Lexus brand and impressed. Purchased a 2001 LS 430 UL,after reading through clublexus postings and realizing what exceptional vehicles they are. I have 127,000 miles and it drives beautifully. Friday morning I came out to a dead battery and proceeded to the Lexus dealer and got a new battery. I asked about service history on my vehicle and there isn't one record- the car was always service at a local mechanic.. I found out the timing belt was changed 11,000 miles ago and that's most important. I private messaged the guy on here from stoptech about some rotors. My question is I am going to get an oil change. What oil should I buy? Full synthetic? High mileage? Blend? I want to get many many more miles from this car as I am in love already! So what's the general consensus here? I was thinking high mileage full synthetic to have the most detergent.. Anything else? Also, anyone that can help me figure how to update my navigation I would greatly appreciate. According to the Lexus owners site, the DVD they use for my vehicle hasn't updated since 2013. Where would I get an update ? Half the time it looks as if I'm driving in the middle of the boonies.. Thanks guys, so, oil and navi?

They say any good 5w30 will do but in my opinion I have been very impressed with amsoil. I used to work for the DOD and I traveled A LOT. I put 62,000 miles on my car in one year. I had switched to ams oil because of their claims of extended service life. After 15,000 miles I sent the oil off for analysis and the results were better than that of the mobil one I sent along with it with 5,000 miles on it.

We're moths to a fire on this question. Anyone who tells you they have the best combination is probably a charlatan.

Broadly speaking the consensus here is that these engines are easy on oil so conventional oil is just fine and the only reason to use synthetics is for the extended oil change intervals or if you routinely have sub-zero starts.

The OEM filters are fine. Some super-premium filters might better and some cheap filters are probably good enough.

Some people have 'theories' about the oil that doesn't meet spec and whether it's okay. Our engines call for energy saving 5w-30. Some people run 0w-40 and apparently it's fine. I used to run TGMO 0w-20 when I routinely had cold starts but the oil would shear out of grade after about 7,500 miles and that didn't seem excellent (although the wear was very low).

Please search for threads on this - it's been discussed extensively and it's unlikely that anyone has anything new to add.

If you are about to do a full brake job with pads and rotors, check out Frozen Rotors. I'm running the frozen slotted fronts and frozen blank rears with akebono act pads all around. They are one of the few companies that use Japanese blanks instead of Chinese and the cryo treatment is supposed to make them last a long long time. Break in time was about 500 miles and great pedal feel, zero noise. Also check out the caliper kit that comes with new shims and pins with cotters.

As far as oil, I personally run Royal Purple 5w30 HPS formula with the oversized Motorcraft filter on 10k interval changes.

Which motorcraft filter? Please say it's the FL900s

I personally used Pennzoil Ultimate as it was the oil the has been using for the past 30,000 miles. Actually, he used Ultra, but it is not available everywhere and after researching Ultimate, I came away quite impressed.

I never thought Pennzoil was top tier synthetic oil, but after getting trapping into the nexus that is bobistheoilguy, I came away quite impressed. Mind you my brother was changing full synthetic every 3000 miles, but my madness only goes so far so it will be 3300 miles!
