Has anyone run or know if the Toyota 0w20 oil is at all compatible with the ls430?

 

This is covered in some of the long threads here on oil preferences. Some are running it but majority opinion is stick with a good synthetic 5w30 as the factory specified for engine longevity.

I have run 5w30 and 10w30 royal purple with 6-8k intervals with no issues and oil comes out still looking like new.

0 weight may be good for fuel economy but for a car you want to last 200k+ miles I wouldnt run it.

 

Especially in Florida... I can see if you were in northern Canada or something.

 

Yea I have 140k on it now I Bought it at 104 and wanting it to last for years. I was just curious of the feedback.

 

I use Mobile 1 extended performance and do 8k - 10k mile OCI's.

 

Please see the Lexus service bulletin which indicates 5W20 can be used for the 3UZ engine which the LS430 has, and actually it is recommended..

The new Lexus and Toyota cars specify 0w20 synthetic and some Lexus dealers use 0w20 for the LS430's.

Good to know that if you want to use a 20 weight oil, Lexus approves it.

 

Been on this forum for a while. I rarely remember oil consumption issues, sludge issues I just stay with 5/30 why change? Just to change?

 

Lubricates better at cold temps before engine warmup, better fuel economy. I use it and have for years.

 

It definitely works.

I used Toyota Genuine 0w20 and my UOA was alright - very little wear but the oil's viscosity was getting a little low after 7000 miles.

Although 0w20s tend to be a bit thinner than 0w30s at 0 degrees f, there's almost no difference between them below 10 degrees f and Lexus seems to think that the 5w30 is fine to run down to -30 f or whatever.

The 0w20 oil will definitely get you the best fuel consumption but it seems like 0w30 oil gets within half a MPG over the tank.

And I'm sure that the 0w20 works fine, but it seems like it'll thin out before the 0w30 will thin out. Right now, I'm running 0w30 so I can get by with one oil change per year.

All in all, I ran it and decided not to run it in the future - not because 0w20 is bad, but 0w30 works better for me. My mechanic insists on putting 5w30 in it and I have to believe that engine wouldn't break because of lubrication issues if you followed Toyota's service recommendations.

 

Alot of this seems like conjecture. Really do not need to overthink my oil but if you guys want to great. Any studies to support better fuel consumption and less wear in the 3UZ motor?

When ya say very little wear with 0 20 do you run comparitive analysis on 5/30 and 0/20?

 

My mistake when UOA was done what did the analyisis show with 2 oils? Guess I just think Synthetic is enough of an upgrade when dino was oem but hey I am always known to stir the pot.

If an oil is thinner I imagine it will get up to the top end faster and easier, will it coat the metal as well?

Only concern I ever had was when my first LS was 160-170k to 200k when I sold it heard a little valve rattle at start up on hot summer days above 80 degrees. Living in Wisco it was a short lasting issue.
It would use a 1/2 quart every 5k miles of Valvoline Syn Now running Pennzoil ultra bring it in 11 bucks to change plus filter All good points you guys have

 

My mistake as well!! I read the trhead as a 0-30 discussion ... that's what I've been running for quite a while, not 0w-20. Although, if all they had at the store when I needed it was 0w-20 I'd run a cycle of it and sleep soundly.

 

I have always used 5W30 but I think I may try a 0W30 on the next change... My last OCI I used Pennzoil Ultra and I will always use a synthetic. Once a year oil changes for me because I only put on around 7k miles a year.
