Default Hood and Trunk shocks

Just changed both sets shocks. Before i could close my hood with 1 finger. Now it almost takes 2 hands. Trunks is easier to open then it is to close. Just the opposite of what it was. Very happy.

How do i get large letters on my headline?

First, they will loosen up over time. Just curious, did you use an aftermarket product (i.e.: Strongarm) or OEM. I used Stongarm in my LS400 and wife's Honda. They worked great.

I used blue lock tight on them they will not loosen up. I did use aftermarket on them. I have used them before on a car i had for over 3 years and never had a problem. $11.00 rear $20.00 front..

If you have not ever replaced any of these yet, the "tricky part" (for me, anyway) was getting the old strut off.... You have to "pry" the jaws around the pivot bolt off of the ball joint with a fairly tiny but strong tool (I used a flat head screw driver). Once you master that task it takes literally 1 minute per strut to swap them out......

Had ours now going on 2 years and they are still working well.

Replaced the hood struts last year which requires a few more tools (socket and open ended wrenches) but all in all both are relatively easy and cheap to replace.....

I replaced them back in the day in my SC
Don't remember much

I appreciate the info
Will be needed

My 05 LS trunk struts aren't dead yet
But it is showing signs so figure let's tackle it

I still have to figure out my garage rolling code program
I tried putting opener next to button
Then go to garage door machine press train button
And click the Homelink button again didn't work

Our main gate opener (non rolling code) was easily done on Homelink

Garage door not working

Wil try it again tomorrow

If u get a 12 mm open end wrench just unscrew the top end first with the shock still on. You will need some kind of poll to hold up the hood after it comes off. then unscrew the bottom. Then u will install just the screws first with lock tight. then the shock goes very easy.

The trunk u just use a hammer to knock them off.

Do a search for another thread on this garage door and rolling code challenge. If you have Chamberlain garage door openers, a certain year/model on the LS430 will not work with it....... We have two Chamberlain openers and I can not get the LS430 to learn on one of them (but I do not park the 430 in that slot so it was a non-issue other than convenience).

thanks duck

I will go home and check the garage door opener
Not sure what brand

It works with our other cars and other Lexus

Then again none are as old as my 430

Appreciate it as I wasted another 15 min and couldn't get it to work at all

What are symptoms of needing new trunk shocks? My trunk opens kind of hard but does stay up. When closing, it's almost a free fall.
