Default Driver Side & 3rd Brake Light out.

Hello CL,

So my Driver's side Brake Light and 3rd Brake Light miraculously go out on me at the same time and i'm looking to fix it, obviously, but I can't seem to find out the bulb size or a tutorial on how to change it out. My Passenger brake light works just fine. I have heard that the newer model LS430's (Mine being a 2005) tail lights are all LED so the whole tail light would have to be replaced. Say it ain't so and give me a 2nd opinion please. Haha. Thank you in advance.

I'm sure this topic may have been covered but I can't seem to find when searching, even Googling. Please don't flame me, if it has been covered, hopefully someone will point me in the right direction.

Unfortunately, it is so. The easiest thing to do is buy a (relatively) decently priced replacement on eBay.

*UPDATE* Seems that my 3rd Brake IS also out. Would there be any connection between the 2? My passenger side tail light still works fine though...

Then why pick that avatar? Anyway....the pros would tell u to check and make sure u have power getting to the lights that are out using a meter. If u dont know how to use one u could take your car to an inspection station and they could check it out for u at minimal cost. My guess is that you need both...I assume your trunk shocks are shot and that maybe your trunk is slamming too hard....hence even LEDs can only handle so much ........Definitely push the connectors together tight to see if u just have a loose connection before spending the big bucks.

Good luck

jpv7774 - Thank you for the advice! Yeah, my shocks are shot and the trunk has been slammed more times than I would like. I'll definitely look into that before spending an arm and a leg...

Im cool with that.......she kinda looks like Phoebe Kates in a strange way.....the pic is small but also looks like she is brushing her teeth. I guess the idea is to make people think huh.......ok....got me.

Yes the trunk slamming is a no no......2 lights out will cost ya 3bills......3 large........3 biggins.......3more then ya wanna spend..........3 bills u could have bought a small flat screen tv for your kitchen with.............3 bills u could have spent on some tranny and differential fluid.........suck it up! Nothing u can do about it. Personally it made me mad at my car for about 2 weeks.....I finally got over it.....but I will tell u this much.....I do NOT slam my trunk anymore.......and I DID replace the trunk shocks

Yeah I personally do not slam my trunk but sometimes the fiancé and the kids do when they grab stuff out of it and I have to remind them every time. Lol. But yeah replacing my hood and trunks shocks are a must for my next update on the car. Lol.

roger that......my wife sometimes prefers we take her car because there are a lot of rules when we take mine. Hood and trunk shocks were cheap and easy fix......well worth your time. If I were to do it over again...and I just might....I would order stronger resistance trunk shocks that will spring open the trunk when ya hit the button....and help resist slamming better. My new ones are weak and barely assist enough to open the trunk.

good luck.....Im out

I also replaced my inner tail lights on my 05 easy fix but expensive since they are LED but from what I'm reading are you saying the outer tail lights are led also?

My inners are still working but my outer bottom portion is out along with my 3rd brake light. I assumed the whole thing was LED but I could be totally noob and incorrect...

The high mount 3rd brake light is a filament bulb # 7440.
