Logically - the dealer's price is probably only a few hundred dollars off what market value should be. But that's not saying that it is priced right.
a) Are TB/WP/associated pulleys done?
b) Are there any suspension creaks and groans? Can only be checked once you arrive at dealer. Dont ask over phone or email.
c) It's not a cream puff because the rear license plate bolt holes show rust. A cream puff is one that has lived life up north and been garaged lovingly. So look for rust on undercarriage or have them send pics of undercarriage.
d) No engine bay shots so pics of that would be nice to have.
e) Look for all features to work, lights to light up and turn off when key inserted and car started, try a dusk drive and make sure AFS works, etc etc. I wouldn't doubt they all do but try to confirm. If you cannot confirm, insert into deal that you have X miles warranty at least. Does not cost anything to dealer to insert a 3000 mile warranty.
f) Start your negotiation at $14K if all of the above is in your favor. If TB/WP/pulleys have been completed, your max is $15K. If not, your final number must be under $14,500.
Good luck. Jump on this if you can. And set your finances in order. Remember that when you walk in and begin negotiating, you should be walking out with a deal or because you couldn't agree. But never walk out because you want to think about it. Offer a number and let them think about it.
I don't know about where you're from but here in Kansas City that would be a great price. I picked up the exact same car (2004 Pearl white with tan leather) about 7 months ago with 78K miles for $16K. Dealer was asking $17K for it. There is an 05 with 158K miles here still selling for $12,900. I would try to get them down to $15K and if you do that would be a steal. Honestly I think the price is already fair as it is but maybe these cars sell for less up in NY?
personally i absolutely would not spend more than 15k for that car. You guys have so many good options down there in the states, and i just personally feel like there are better deals to be had.
