Looking to replace the emblems...how to remove?
So my 2002 has those nasty dealer installed gold emblems on it, which i absolutely hate, plus they don't weather very well compared to the originals. I want to get some original chrome ones and swap them out.
The one of the front grill is pretty self explanatory, but, the ones on the trunk lid?
How are they attached? The Factory service manual says nothing other than the specifications one where they go, so i'm going to guess that they just have that double sided sticky foam on them... Is it just a matter of sliding a peice of dental floss (or something) under them and freeing them up?

The trunk emblems have pins coming out of them that go inside some drilled holes in the trunk, for orientation. Just need a heat gun, or hair dryer. With little bit of heat, and as you mentioned some floss or some fishing string and just gently rubbing it out. After that you need to remove the old glue for your new badges to sit well on the trunk. I used some goo-gone and plenty of water. Did a 2 stage polishing and put on the new emblems. Good luck.
just did mine too
Hairdryer works well, does not need too much heat either.
When trying the dental floss method - there are some pins on the emblem that go into holes in the trunk lid. So, you will not completely work the floss thru the emblems back.I used a small flat plastic (no sharp edges!!!) and worked it between the emblem and trunklid. Careful that you dont bend the emblems.
After you get them all off (sticky doublesided tape) I used some cottonballs soaked in varsol and rubbed the stuff off.
Some residue will faintly show the Lexus logos. Car polish and careful rubbing will get the surfaces completely clean.
Now you will have holes showing: 2 for the Lexus sign, 2 for the LS430 and 2 for the Lexus emblem. Cover them if there is a chance it will rain!
I am planning to do a graphic over all that (TrimLine 3M) maybe a reflecting tape
