One thing I love about the my old 400 and my 430 is that it does not burn a drop of oil. Here is my dipstick after nearly 6,000 miles on Mobile 1 Extended Performance. Going to change the oil soon. Got to love it. 134k miles and not any noticeable loss.
Lav, I agree. On my '01, I have almost exactly double your mileage on dino oil (and with 14 years of frigid cold winter starts) and no oil burn between changes.
i run brand name oil in all my cars and i have not had a oil burner in the 40 + cars i have had.my 86 mr2 still runs regular oil with no problems.i how ever change the oil in my older cars quite often.

Mine's only a baby with 123,000kms, but like yours it doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes. Love it!
Not the case for many with 460's. And I don't want to turn this into a rag the 460 thread but that 4.6 is known to consume oil. I wonder if any of the SUV's burn oil. I have always wanted a LX. Like an 05 or 06 as a play toy.

Bob04 (hope he sees this) hated how loud the 4.6 was, that it clattered and ticked. Well, I was in Beverly Hills the other day and a 460 passed by me (slowly), and I heard it, from 2 lanes away!! tick tick tick tick......
You guys may laugh or declare it unnecessary but I decided to add about 6 or 8 ounces of Mavel Mystery Oil to the crankcase. Just a tad to start and not overfill. Many people swear by the stuff. The reason is I wanted to do this is to drive for a week and let it help remove some varnish and or carbon on the valves and guides and such. I will then change the oil then put in about half a quart.
I will say one thing and I'm pretty intune with my car but just on the very first drive she felt really peppy. It's odd. I did not add any to the fuel. I change my oil religiously but this does not prevent a certain amount of varnish or carbon accumulating in the engine. I swear she felt more powerful after adding just a little Marvel oil. I'm surprised honestly. I'm going to monitor an see if I notice any change. Also, the idle was higher with the AC off. I drove about 6 miles to the store and back. Maybe 100 rpms or so. Just thought I would share some observations. Interesting.

05-06 LX used the UZ engine, just one with an iron block and stroked out to 4.7L for torque. Don't expect to win any races, but the motors in those are just about as silky-smooth as ours.
I really would love one of those as well. The final model years of those were gorgeous, and I think look better than the brand new ones.
I've never had a Lexus that used any oil, at least not any that I or my mechanic noticed.

LOL, you're a trip. Thats absurd BTW. You do hear some ticking from the DI when outside the car, and the idle on the 460 is a little louder because of the timing chain vs belt, but its nothing that can be heard inside another vehicle from two lanes away, especially a quiet LS430. I can't even hear these things inside the LS460 when its idling.
My GS350 almost sounded like a diesel at idle because of the DI, but my 460 does not. Anyways...thats the price you pay for no longer having to replace the timing belt, and getting 100 more HP while holding the line on fuel economy.
Just took a trip from Princeton to Long Branch. Long Branch is really nice. Beautiful mansions on the beach. Car is running really great. Doing the tie rod ends really made a nice improvement. Fantastic gas mileage to boot.

I was going to ask how it was going in NJ. Long Branch is very nice, friend of mine got married there 6-7 years ago.
Thanks Steve. Things are going well. Overall I like Princeton. My commute is working out great. 15 min or so and no traffic. Love that part. As far as NJ goes the demographics are definitely different. A lot more Asians and Indians and hardly any African Americans. Atlanta area was predominantly Black, White, and Mexican. Not that there's anything wrong with it it's just interesting to see the differences.
I find that people are less personable in general and drivers are kind of a-holes. Not letting you merge, riding your tail, and lots of cutting people off. For some reason people drive on the wrong side of the road in parking lots all the time here. It's odd. But I knew what to expect so it's not a big surprise. Northerners are more guarded and reserved in public vs Southerns in general. Overall it's nice though. New job is going good so I can't complain. Need to find a good independent shop my area. If anyone knows one let me know.

yeah the LX470 is an extraordinary vehicle. I had an 01 when we lived in Dubai and gas was dirt cheap, then finally caved and bought my wife an 05 last year here in MD. They are extraordinary vehicles, not quite the attention to beauty of the LS but definitely attention to detail and overengineering. Their reliability and durability is equal to or better than the LS, even when subjected to abusive environments you see overseas. IT is a big lumbering vehicle and doesn't handle at all like the LS but I enjoy driving it because it is so unbelievably solid feeling, and the interior switching and panels such high quality.
much harder to find a good deal on them than the LS...even if you broaden the search to include the Land Cruiser. They are out there but very tough to find one less than 100k miles...not an issue though because of their durability.
