I like a lot of the Euro cars, but most are for leasing and not for owning. If I had the cash (no car payments), I would buy a new A8, S8, or S7. My wife's A8 has been very reliable.

I like the LS430, take criticism that I drive a "grandfather car," but a friend of mine said yesterday that once you've had a top of the line car.....it's hard to get used to anything else.

I've been looking at A6's (2013 CPO's), knowing that I will be giving up reliability, and size, but it is a fun car, four wheel drive, and it is different from the LS430.

If I'm putting odds on it.....I'll probably still be in the LS, because I still like it. I've just got this thing in my head about being in a car that is thirteen years old.
A 13 years old LS430 is still more reliable and trouble free then a 4 years old Euro cars.

It is all in your head

Harsh reality is better than false hope. You are right. My head keeps saying...."car is getting old....will it be reliable on trips, etc.

Just did a round robin in my 98 from DC to Fayetteville, NC last weekend just over 800 miles total. Not one hiccup 1400040 miles on the clock as of tonight. Bought it with 117k miles on it in July of 2013. Don't get wrapped up in the cars age its still a very impressive vehicle.

Your concern of insurance payoff in case it get totaled is valid.

Reliability of a 13 years old LS430, is not a concern.

Pretty much whatever newer cars in this level you switch to, would cost way more then you would lose if the LS430 get totaled

Uh, that's a typo correct? 1,400,040 I can't imagine how it's possible to put 1,300,000 miles on a car in less than 2 years. Assuming there's an extra zero - you've still added a lot of miles on a rather old car and I for one am all the more impressed- though not surprised at all given the stories we've read elsewhere on the board.

so the resounding answer is, keep it. This car is unusually reliable, even well past 100k.

heck, if you wanted extreme reliability, proactively replace the 4 or 5 minor things (air shocks excepted) that are known to fail and confidently drive it to 200k, enjoying each mile.

indeed that is the beauty of this forum.....we have an excellent idea of what fails, how to fix it, and approximately when. It is free, and I wouldn't be surprised if our conclusions are very similar to the data that Toyota holds on the same subject.

Keep it.

It comes down to reliability. What would the cost of replacement be for something that gives similar quality and longevity. As you know, the LS is VASTLY over engineered. I can't think of anther car at anywhere near the price that provides that assurance. IMHO, the risk of going German is much higher than the risk of keeping the LS due to (un)reliability issues.
