Default Need help, gremlins in the Nav screen

Hi all, hope someone can help. I have used the search function and cannot find anything exactly like what is happening with my 04 UL.

Randomly my Nav screen will go blank, the temperature displays above it will go blank and my stereo shuts off. I can turn the stereo back on by pushing the button on the head unit and it plays fine. If I tap the audio button to the right of the Nav screen I get a message to connect the stereo. If I tap the climate button to the right of the Nav screen I get a message to connect the air conditioner. I can tap the button for options or other buttons and I get the normal screens pop up. I suspect that the screen is working since these messages come up on it. I suspect the ML amp is working since the stereo can be turned on by the button on the radio.

Any ideas on what gives? This just started this week. The stereo is all stock with a new ML subwoofer fairly recently replaced.

Could a weak battery cause this? Car starts and runs fine. No other low battery symptoms.

If it could be a lose connection behind the screen could anyone point me to the instructions on how to get behind it?

Thanks in advance for any in site you may have.

Have the battery and alternator checked but it sounds like the head unit is failing. There are electronic shops that will fix them for significantly less then purchasing a new one.

Thanks Lavrishevo,

I will check the battery and alternator first.

I have spoken to one of the Nav repair service providers online and he gave me some good advice regarding corroded wiring connectors associated with the backup camera system that can cause the problems I am experiencing. If they are the cause of the problem I will post so others can benefit. If that is not the problem I will also post my findings and hopefully the fix to the problem.

It's a little "off the wall", but on my 02LS, I put two, 2.5 gallon jugs of distilled water in the trunk. One broke and it was directly above the nav unit in the trunk. I was just driving along when all the electrics went crazy.
I dried it for three day with fans running on it. Worked perfectly for the next 2 years.

Thanks for the info. How hard is it to replace the head unit? Like replacing a stereo (single assembly, plug in connects)? The video on a single DIN install looks pretty simple if you're careful w/ trim pry bar and a screwdriver.
