Default Read this. CEL P0051 sensor

Recently had the check engine light come on. Bought a cheap scanner on eBay and found out the bank two sensor one heating element circuit was low. Was going to the dealership anyway to have valve cover gaskets replaced and new plugs installed. Asked dealer to give me a price on sensor and labor charge. Anyway they changed gaskets and installed plugs for 488 which I thought was fair (local Toyota dealer wanted 622 for valve gaskets alone). 488 was total out the door parts labor tax etc. now the kicker...lexus wanted 215 for sensor and 139 to install it and I politely declined. Was told by my local mechanic not to buy an off brand sensor. Did my research and found that DENSO makes most sensors for Toyota and lexus...off to eBay and found what I wanted from a retailer in California. Ordered it and it arrived in three days in Florida...total cost 55.76. Had my local mechanic install it. 75.00. So here are the finals

Dealer
Sensor. 215.00
Install. 139.00
Tax. 21.24
Total. 375.24

Myself and a little research

Sensor. 55.76
Labor. 75.00
Total. 130.76

Savings 244.48

The point being..do a little research. And the sensor came with a one year warranty
Car is a 2003 ls 430 with 106000 miles

Thank you for the post and good work. Those little cheapie OBD readers are the bee's knees :-)

Loving the elbow grease on the forum too......can't wait to actually participate and contribute some DIY...

If you had a good experience with the eBay vendor share their name or link to what you bought if you don't mind. I've been thinking of buying 4 New sensors to keep around when I do exhaust upgrade.

yea ive done this many times , ROCK AUTO is a great resource that all Lexus owners should have saved in their phone contacts.

Dealer wanted like $200 per brake sensor, picked them up on rock auto for like $20 each .

Dealer wanted $200 for oxygen sensors, picked them up on rock auto for like $30 each.

Driving a luxury car and spending domestic prices on parts is what its all about

Holy savings Batman!

Denso O2 sensor (Front left - #50120), with 5 day shipping to Switzerland is about 65$ !!!

Pollen cabin filter 10$ The Zurich dealer was asking 100$.

Now buying sensor, socket, and a filter, with 5 day shipping to CH for the same money as just the filter. And I couldn't find a Left upstream sensor anywhere outside the dealer...

Shop bookmarked! ***** you are the MAN!
