Compare 02 to 04 LS430
Here are our 2 LS430s. The silver one is the 04 if there was any question. These side by side comparisons should give a pretty good idea of the differences. The doors and the roof are the same as far as I can tell. The hoods, trunk lid and fenders are different, mostly due to the changes in the lights. There are a few other obvious differences like the front lower facia and the trunk licence plate area and the lower rear facia where the tailpipes exit. I believe the 01 through 03 were the first 430s and the 04 through 06 were the second design.

2 LS430s
I got the gold one for my wife this Feburary. I liked it so much that I got one for myself this spring. They are pretty comfy and they aren't slow. I am enjoying them emmensly. The market prices don't seem to be as high as the book, which is a real bonus!

I think the 04 update is one of the best facelifts on any car I can think of offhand. They took an attractive car and turned it into a gorgeous head turner, IMO.
No offense to anyone, but I think the 01-03 looks slightly awkward. I remember way back in 2000 at the car show I was like wtf when I saw the new LS430. I thought the outgoing 00 LS400 looked way better. It's not unattractive by any means, but if you compare an 01 with the 16s to an 06 with those 18s, WOW-- what a difference.
On my search for my 430 the 01-03 was out of the question for me.
