Default CD screen shows ERROR 3

MY CD player was working fine. Ejected disc 2, no problem. Then tried to eject disc 3 and the CD would not eject.
Tried again and got the message " error 3 " on the display
The CD player no longer works

What do I need to do to fix this ? I am guessing that a CD transport mechanism is jammed

My search here showe this question has been asked many times without many replies other than
1. disconnect the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes,
2. take it to the dealer for a $ 700 repair, or
3. take the CD unit out of the console myself etc. etc ( not going to do this ! )

I will try # 1 above tonight .... and hope its OK in the morning

The owner's manual is pretty useless on this point. It basically says that "Something is wrong. Try to eject the disc and if that doesn't work, take it to the dealer."
