Default 06 Why does my nav over shoot a address

It did this with the old disc and the new one. Ok say I put a address in or poi it will say I am there 1/2 block before I get there or 1/2 block after. When I come to a intercection when the map is on or navigating the intercection is dead on. I dont get it I recalibrated for my new tires it did this before when I had the old original tires car has 28k on it now.

It is because both OEM and aftermarket navigation systems do not know about individual addresses and only know the range of addresses within a block and which side of the street/road contains odd numbered addresses and which side contains even numbered addresses. A navigation system calculates the estimated location of the target address based on the information it has. It can get really wacko when an address is in a shopping center.

That makes a lot of sence one address was in a shopping center and was like a block early. How come my $199 Garmin is dead on when it comes to addresses.

For one thing, the "generation 4" navigation system in the 2004-2006 LS430 was probably designed and finalized in 2002 or early 2003 when chipset technology was not nearly as advanced as in more recent portable GPS devices like Garmin. How old is your Garmin? Your Garmin could have technology ten years more advanced than that in your LS430 In addition, portable GPS technology is usually two or three years ahead of in-dash navigation systems sold in the same time period due to their much shorter design-to-market time.

There have been a lot of improvements since the gen 4 nav of the 04-06 LS430. The current Toyota/Lexus generation 7 navigation system like what we have in our new Prius is much more advanced but it also will likely fall behind quickly as technology accelerates.

I use my Android/Google GPS more than my OEM nav. When I arrive at my destination it shows me the street level view of the address that I'm looking for. Can't miss.

Mine isn't. Can easily outdrive the directions even at 20MPH. Just did a map update 3-2014 or something but haven't tested it thoroughly.

Your 2008 Garmin is probably pretty ancient. My wife's Garmin that failed last year was newer than that and it was more cost effective to replace with a new one than to fix the old one - especially now that most (all?) new Garmins come with lifetime maps and with her new Garmin coming with ad-free traffic at a price less than $200. Her old Garmin did not have a traffic receiver and automatic re-routing around traffic blockages which works really well on the new one.

Shopping centers seem to be the biggest challenge for nav systems be they OEM or portable - especially if the shopping center is of the mega-sprawling type with their own street systems currently being built in larger cities.

I haven't been doing it the past few years but I used to download custom POI files from businesses including my wife's favorite restaurant chain from business websites or from websites like GPS Passion. Custom POI files usually have exact coordinates that better guide the user to a POI location and do not rely or rely less on relative address calculations. Maybe it's my imagination but I seem to get more exact location information from phone applications like Yelp which I can then send from our phones to a Garmin wirelessly (Bluetooth) via the Garmin Smartphone Link app.

Your 2008 Garmin definitely doesn't support Garmin's Smartphone Link app. It's very cool and worth purchasing a new Garmin just to get it. If you do, make sure your new Garmin supports it as the less expensive Garmins do not.
