I purchased my ls a week ago with both door speakers and the subwoofer busted. Over the last couple days I refoamed them and I have to admit I am a little disappointed with the mark levinson sound system. I have an 07 Outlander XLS with a stock Rockford Fosgate sound system and it sounds way better, richer, fuller, and of course way more bass. As far as the sub is concerned, the magnet is horrendously small! Did anyone else notice a degradation in sound quality after refoaming or are they just mediocre? It is hard to know as I have never heard one brand new. I was almost thinking of taking out the amp and selling on ebay for 300-500$ and just installing a whole new system with the proceeds.

 

I had exactly same thing: both front door and sub were blown. Trust me, I tried different speakers and they all suck compared to stock ML. I got stock door speakers replaced with same thing and got a Kicker comp88 sub to replace a stock unit. However the biggest improvement was Dynamat. I installed it in all doors and rear deck - huge difference.

 

Fosgate > Mark Levinson. I have been into higher end audio for about 35 years and the best sound car systems I heard always had Fosgate amps. They were always by far the best sounding and most powerful amps available.

 

The ML OEM speakers in the LS look like cheap crap speakers because that's exactly what they are. ML is just Harman Audio branded junk. 90% marketing hype. If you want real audiophile quality gear sell the OEM stuff on ebay and get decent modern new head unit, amp and speakers.

 

I am glad that I am not alone. However seeing a I just fixed all the speakers I will probably leave it. The boxster on the other hand with its 5.25" "woofer" in the door will probably get replaced first!
