Default LS430 aftermarket headunit install questions

I've searched the forum to no avail. Is there any way you can install an aftermarket headunit into a 2001-2003 LS430 (non-navi) without the beat-sonic audio integration kit? Does anyone know the specifics on installing the head unit without the kit? Thanks in advance!

As far as I know there isn't anything else. I've seen guys run single DIN headunits in place of the six disc changer. I saw one guy mount a single din in the arm rest too.

I've been trying to research the exact same thing, particularly installing a single DIN into the cd changer slot while retaining the function of the door.

There really is very limited information which is sort of a bummer/surprise seeing as how the stock system does not have now seemingly basic functionality such as mp3 playback or bluetooth A2DP streaming.

The only thing I've been able to find was this..

http://lexusforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105

It shows the full install but nothing on how to do it, or what additional work needs to be done.

It's pretty obvious the slot needs to be widened after you remove the cd changer. There might be some additional wiring necessary as well but I haven't been able to find anything about it.

you can but the amount of time that you need to make everything on your own is not worth it. just get the beatsonic kit

double din is pretty simple using the beat sonic kit.
