I wanted to chime in here. I had used Einszett Klima Cleaner to clean my BMW a while back, and I actually think it ended up killing my AC compressor. I'm not sure exactly how, but it went out shortly after, perhaps I used it improperly. To get rid of the smells in the car, you can use the method of spraying into the vents under the wipers using febreze neutrair. Its a neutral smelling spray that makes the car smell very fresh and it helps kill the bacteria.
Wanted to add to this wonderful thread. The ac can get musty in the south. The drain tube is definitely the way to go. We can take it one step further and you don't have to get under car. Also with this method make sure the drain line is clean and clear on that notorious passenger side! First on the passenger side remove the floor mat, next remove the under-shield below glove box, next remove the side vent and now work the carpet out till you can see the drain tube red arrow, this will take a bit time gently but firmly work the hose down. Once the hose is down, take your plastic hose from the kit and insert about 8 to 10 inches of the hose,(that's what she said) Proceed to unleased the the foam cleaner of your choice. Do exactly as the can directs and this should be an effective method, in my opinion with all the electronic items and wiring, the alcohol and other very questionable method seem sketchy.
I thank many of you members, also I'm feverously reviewing each DIY post, look forward to adding to this great community! Hope this helps!
