2005 Ls430 Tilt motor replacement
Just wanted to say thanks to the original poster for starting this thread. Got this done today in about one hour. No special tools needed besides what's listed. Works like New again. Well worth the few hundred bucks
I hear of tilt motor problems from time to time.I Had my tilt motor function tuned off at 46000 mi when i purchased my ls. Was your always going up and down every time you started and stopped the car?
I have to replace my tilt motor also. It seems to have locked up although i dont hear any type of activity indicating its trying to move. Telescoping function is strange. I can move it back and forth with the switch, albeit at a very slow pace, and it does retract when turning the car off but does not extend when starting the car. Probably replace that motor too afterwards.

Yes if you don't have it disabled the wheel auto retracts and tilts up every time you turn off the car. When you turn on the car the wheel comes toward you and into its memory setting position.
Great stuff on this issue. I do know that the 2001-2003 configurations are a bit different than the 2004+ tilt/telescope system, and there are different part numbers for the tilt motors in the two series.
Has anyone attempted this replacement, using the instructions above on the 2001-2003 models? Please advise, many thanks!

Thank you for starting this post. I just bought my Black on Black 04 LS430 with 135k last week and the tilt motor stuck in the up position. This is my third LS. (I still have my 1991 Black on Black LS400) These cars just keep getting better and better. I can see they fixed all the problems the LS400's were having and the ride is so much smoother and faster.
***What I did was a little different. I loosened the 6mm hex bolts on both sides of the motor to free up the motor and tilt it to a position that was comfortable and lined the motor back up and screwed it back in and left the plug unhooked. Took maybe 15 minutes and didn't spend a dime for now. It still telescopes in and out albeit rather slowly. Might unhook that motor too?
-Love this car.
