Default Brake Pad Suggestions for LS430?

After seeing a number of you guys change your brakes, I've decided to do it myself.

Any recommendations for the pads? Anyone here tried Akebono? Or I should I just order the OEM from Sewell?

Other than the pads, is there anything else I need? I.e. brake cleaner, noise reducing goo, additional parts?

Thanks! You guys rule!

Someone just put the Akebono with Brembo combo and I believe likes them. Search for the thread and read about it. For me personally I always go oem because it gives me good results. You'll need anti-squel for the brake shims, but other than that I have not used anything else. Basically for the pad job portion, you'll need a plier to remove the cotter pin, large screw driver to push/wedge the pads against the piston to push them back in, and a slim screw driver to push the retainer pin out.
You will enjoy the job and get great satisfaction and appreciate the ease.

I have used OEM pads with excellent results. Ordered from irontoad.com for $50 a set...quick, easy, free delivery, no drama.

OEM pads and rotors are very good compared to just about every other car I've driven. Why change a design that works?

I agree. Why risk screwing up a good thing to try to save a few bucks?

Exactly. For the brake part, don't need a c-clamp, don't need a wrench. If you have a pair of pliers and one screwdriver, you're set. How simple is that? easiest job to save big $$$ because the shops are not cutting you a break on doing the brakes on this easy job.

A huge thanks to all of you! I ordered the OEM pads from Irontoad and I'll give it a whirl. It seems like a totally doable DIY job considering how well designed the car is.
