Hello, Brand new to the site. Someone said, I had bought the extended kit from Sewell; what does this do-- extend the life of the engine. I saw it on line for under $400 but it did not provide many details.
On another note, I had an LS400 before the LS430 and my timing belt broke at about 55,000. I had bought this from a broker who went to an auction and thought I was toast. I called Lexus and they were fantastic.... I gave them my title number, and they had a tow truck pick it up and take it to Lexus dealership. They apologized several times for the inconvenience. They not only put on a new timing belt but replaced the water pump which toasted out. Could not believe it, but I got lucky and the engine was fine (engine was still good at over 200K when I sold it).

What year was LS400?
From what Iunderstand 1990 to 1997 are non-interference and 1998 to 2000 are interference.

I believe that the interference engines started with model year 1995 (UCF20/21).

I'm up to 98k in an 04 LS. Will probably do around Christmas of this year (when I get xmas money lol), when it be probably around 105k. I'm sure it would last well longer than that, but I'm not gonna lie, it is starting to make me a tad nervous. It's almost a 10 year old car, that I've driven pretty hard since I picked it up with 74k.

The dealer however has not been pressing it. I spoke personally with two different techs and they said I was fine, for now. I can't remember exactly the conversation but they said after about 120k you're pushing it.

I had my 03 done yesterday at 99,140. My guy showed me the belt and it was frayed in two places. Not badly frayed, but frayed. Also, water pump was leaking. He said it was a good thing I decided to go ahead and do it.

If your car is over the 7 year period but below mileage I'd recommend going ahead and getting it done. I feel lucky that I did it in time. I'm in South Florida so climate may have something to do with it.

FYI I got the Aisin kit for $230 (belt, pump, tensioner, pulleys and seals) and my mech charged me $350. Was quoted $482 for labor from local Japan specialty shop that has been around for many years. So total cost a little over $600 when you factor in the toyota coolant, radiator hoses and drive belt.

I just ordered my timing belt kit for $127 from Amazon. My friend will do the work in the next few months.

Is there a difference in quality between different brands of TB kits? OEM the best?

Default Timing Belt Replacement

Anyone know a good Lexus repair shop on the Virginia Peninsula (Hampton Roads) that has good rates. I have a 2004 LS430 with about 90K
Also, What should I have done with the timing belt; the Lexus dealer said they will take it apart and if the seals are leaking (4/10 cars), they do the seals, and if the Water Pump is leaking (4/10 cars), they do that also.
This can add up to $1500.
Calling around, but could use some assistance from the group.
Thanks

All parts and labor cost me about $950. I trust this auto shop to do timing belts all of my cars. So far so good.
Changing 3 quarts of tranny fluid is a waste of time you have 12 quarts you need a total remove and replace IMO.

I guess Aisin is original manufacturer of these factory parts. Denso and Aisin are 100% japanese parts.

Snapstr...try Japanese Auto Masters on Holland Road in Virginia Beach. Had a very high satisfaction rating in Angie's List and I subsequently used them for my 06 LS430. Nothing very complex yet but they are very honest (sent me to Costco for tires, said I didnt need a wheel balance/rotation yet, etc.

I have a 2002 LS 430 with 135,000 KMS (85,000 miles ) I had the dealer change the belt and water pump this spring. I asked for the belt so I could inspect. It looked like a piece of 11 year old rubber, The cost with labour was about $1700 (welcome to Canadian shop prices ) but when I considered the low cost of operating this car for the past 9 years it seemed to be both prudent ( i bought it used) from a maintenance point of view and reasonable if I hold on to the car for another 6 plus years.
