Hey, has anyone ever tried painting wheels and putting them on the LS430? I was thinking about purchasing some factory ls wheels and painting them black due to a few scratches on them. Anyone ever tried it or any ideas? Moneys kinda tight right now and I can't afford lexus factory wheels 1000 and up.

 

Black is not my choice but if you like it go for it. Regarding the painting of them, I bought wheel paint (spray cans) from Autozone and painted my daughters wheels on her Blazer two years ago and through two Chicago winters there's not one imperfection on them. Prepping is the key. I took them off the car, wet sanded with a scotch bright pad, wiped them down with paint degreaser/cleaner, taped them off (tires stayed on) and sprayed the color and then two coats of clear and they look amazing. The color was a silver/gray metallic. I believe there was a black chrome available also.

 

i have seen it done a few times and it usually looks decent if you color match with the car appropriately and also do a good job of painting like mentioned above ^ ^ ^

 

The auto parts stores should also have some paint made for painting wheels. You can also plastic dip your wheels test and see if you like it.
